Introduction/Background

Choose one of the databases – Manufacturing, Hospital, Consumer Food or Financial

These are the same databases from Week One Worksheet

Provide background information based on the databases. You may have to do additional research based on your selection to get the background information

The Introduction should include a thesis statement that prepares the reader for what to expect in the paper. The Introduction is separate from Part I of the paper.

Part I – Preliminary Analysis

State the objective

What is the purpose of research

What questions are you trying to answer

What is the population

What sample of the population will be used

Are the data quantitative or qualitative

What are the levels of measurement for the data

These answers are found on your worksheet from Week One

This section should have a minimum of 3 paragraphs with in-text citations supporting definitions or explanations

Part II – Descriptive Statistics

Examine the data

Present the descriptive statistics

Use Megastat or Excel to run descriptive statistics

Discuss what the descriptive statistics mean

Identify any outliers

Present all graphs or charts as an appendix to the paper. Describe the charts and refer to them but don’t include them in the body of the paper.

This section should contain at least 3 paragraphs with the appropriate in-text citations to support any definitions or explanations.

Part III – Inferential Statistics

Create (formulate) the hypotheses

Include the Null Hypothesis and the Alternate Hypothesis

Conduct the formal hypotheses using the eight (8) steps to hypothesis testing

Make a statement to reject or fail to reject the null using only those statements

You must then state what it means in laymen terms by rejecting or failing to reject the null

There should be at least 2 paragraphs

Part IV - Recommendations

What are your recommendations as it relates to the study

You should tie the recommendation/conclusion back to the purpose of the research

What can you infer from the statistical analysis

What information might lead to a different conclusion

Are there any variables missing

What additional information would be valuable to help draw a more certain conclusion

Conclusion

This conclusion should be the conclusion to the paper.

It should tie back to the introduction and summarize what has been written

It should not be confused with the Recommendations/Conclusion section of Part IV.
