Solutions on how to access affordable and reliable energy
Energy is a challenge the affects the world on many levels. The next few slides will discuss the history of energy in the united nations, how many countries are affected by the lack of energy, and solutions on how access affordable and reliable energy.

History of Energy
The Old Day
Energy Takes Off
The Great Energy Crash
Energy started well before we were born. Back in the day, energy was very simple. Sun was used as a hear source and horses were used as transportation. As time went on, we used technology to improve our sources. This was great but it made it more difficult to poorer countries to compete with technology. Technology gave people the opportunity to do things quicker. Instead of using the sun for hear, technology allowed us to use electricity to heat our homes At this time, energy use was so cheap it allowed the growth of energy use to double every 10 years. In 1973, American support for Israel in the Arab-Israeli War led the Arab oil-producing nations to stop supplying oil to the United States and other western nation. Countries that are affected by the lack of energy
South Sudan - 5.1% of population
Chad – 6.4% of population
Burundi – 6.5%
There are several countries that lack access to energy. Listed are the top 3 countries that do not have access to energy. Statistics show that 67% of the developing world still goes without household electricity. Without the access to electricity, the people in these countries are unable to utilize energy that would make their lives much easier.
4
Energy and World Population
Population + GDP per capita + Energy per unit of GDP = Energy
USA is 5% of world’s population
World Population 2019
In 2019 will reach over 7.6 billion. It has doubled in the past 50 years and is increasing by over 150 people every minute. The United States is the lowest population at 5% and uses the most energy in the world. The wildlife is decreasing and the human life is increasing. The energy consumption is so high, the energy resources are increasing in price and the quality is not the best. Technology in today’s world does not let us go back to the old days when energy use was simple.

Solutions to Energy
Energy efficiency and conservation
Renewable energies
Non-renewable energies
Solutions that will help the lack of energy can be a long list of things. Until we as people learn how to use efficiently use energy, we will always have an energy crisis. One way to help is to come up with a plan to improve energy infrastructure. Using renewable energies such as wind power will play an important role in helping with the lack of energy throughout countries. The use of non-renewable energies such as using coal power is a great solution to help in the future of our energy resources.
6
Lack of Educational Opportunities
Minimum proficiency levels
Build and upgrade education facilities
Ensure quality education
The lack of education can be caused by a number of things. This harms countries because the lack of education have them behind the curve of other thriving countries. Proficiency levels are low, the resources to build and upgrade the education facilities, ensuring quality education, and increasing the supply of qualified teachers. The goal is to make sure that countries are on track to have the level education that helps them survive.
7
Minimum Proficiency Levels in Education
617 million children and adolescents worldwide are not achieving minimum proficiency
Across Sub-Saharan African, 90% will not meet minimum proficiency levels in reading and math
Asia has second highest rate
The learning crisis is level of proficiency in math and reading. Central and Southern Asia has the second highest rate of children not learning at 81%. Reports show that 6 out of 10 children are not learning globally. Being able to retain children in the schools aides in the problem of learning around the world.
8
Upgrade of Education Facilities
Location of schools
Natural Disasters
The conditions and locations of schools play a major role in the level of education the children receive. Schools across the nation have experienced natural disasters. When a natural disaster occurs, it forces children to miss for extended periods of time. This interrupts the learning process. Another thing is the location on where the school is located. Some schools are located in areas that filled with crisis and experiencing a war which makes it hard for children to attend school.

Quality Education
Gender Equality
Affordable Education
Education needs to be equal between genders. The target is to make sure education is available and affordable to all. This will be done by providing scholarships. Poverty remains the most important factor for determining whether a girl can access an education. For example, in Nigeria, only 4 percent of poor young women in the North West zone can read, compared with 99 percent of rich young women in the South East. Climate change
Global Warming
Cost
Climate change is interrupting the lives of people in all countries. We are the primary cause of climate change. There are many solutions to help control this change. We have to control our carbon footprints in the world to help. In doing so, the Paris Agreement was adopted.
11
Global Warming
Greenhouse Gases
Carbon Dioxide
Heat Waves
Global warming is the increase of Earth’s average surface temperature due to greenhouse gases that collect in the atmosphere. Due to greenhouse gases being released into the atmosphere, it keeps heat close to the earth’s surface. There is more carbon dioxide in the atmosphere today than at any point in the last 800,000 years. Since 1870, sea levels have risen by 8 inches. Heat waves caused by global warming makes the risks much higher in elderly people and people who have diabetes.
12
Cost of Climate Change
Wildfires
Weather
The cost of climate change is on the rise. The cost of damages from wildfires and weather is extremely high and continuously rising each year. In 2013, wildfires cost the US $1.7 billion, and this was only the cost of fighting the fires. This did not include the cost of damage done to properties.
