Self-Esteem
Life is a precious and beautiful thing. It is an artwork that requires people to learn how to beautify it through the ways they live. Therefore, it is essential to living with dignity and explore the various life values that make it beautiful. Self-respect is what everyone needs. In Life, everyone wants to be recognized and respected by others. Respect is a virtue. What is confidence? What specific role does self-esteem play in Life? What happens if a person loses self-esteem? In this article, we will discuss the aspects and characteristics surrounding this topic.
Self-esteem is a kind of emotional experience of self-respect, self-love, and self-respect based on individuals; and the need to be respected by others, the group, and society. According to our textbook (, Self-esteem is an individual’s subjective evaluation of her/his/their abilities and limitations.” Self-esteem is a psychological component of the self-regulation structure of personality. There are strong and weak points of self-esteem, too strong into vanity, too weak into inferiority. What is self-esteem? Self-esteem, namely self-respect, is the result of the individual's self-evaluation of his social role. Self-esteem is formed through social comparison and results from the individual's self-evaluation of his social role. Self-esteem first manifests itself as self-respect and self-care. Self-esteem also involves the expectation of respect from others, the group, and society. Another way of looking at it is self-esteem, a sense of self-worth, an affirmation of your overall worth. According to research, self-esteem helps people gauge their worth because it helps them recognize and establish their self-beliefs like being lovable, respected, worthy, or outgoing. It also entails awareness of the most crucial emotional states that define a person's mood, such as being cheerful, happy, or worried.
A person that is cheerful and open-minded will feel the happiness of self-esteem. Whether it is the affirmation of their own value, or others' affirmation of their own value, self-esteem, and respect, are all factors to making one happy. Only to know the shame is to have self-esteem. Respect for them is priceless as it is the bottom line and a bright spot in Life. It means neither kowtowing to others nor allowing others to discriminate or insult. No matter whether others respect you or not, first of all, you must respect yourself. Others will respect only self-respecting people who know how to respect others. According to Chapter 3 of the class text, achieving success depends on the people around you. Therefore, as a popular Chinese poem states, helpful people are essential in the Life of a self-esteemed person because they will definitely propel the person to greater success.
In European culture, Sukhomlinsky once said, "Human beings have many noble characters, but one noble character is the apex of human nature, which is self-esteem. " Therefore, self-esteem is a very important quality for everyone. However, in real life, our words and deeds are sometimes misunderstood by others; not everyone respects and understands and even suffers unfair treatment and persecution of words and deeds. At such times, we may sink into an abyss of disappointment, depression, and low self-esteem, as if all our self-esteem has been stripped away. More so, While others do not, they will face these problems easily, no matter how many difficulties, and always maintain a positive attitude, not discouraged, don't lose heart, don't give up, believe in yourself, respect yourself, and through their own efforts, further, to find the value of his Life won the respect of others, feel the joy of self-esteem. In another story depicted from a popular Chinese poem, self-esteem drives our images and reputation. For instance, showing respect to those in power is a sign of having self-esteem and awareness. Therefore, self-esteem is the basis of a person's moral character, image, and temperament. Without self-esteem, a person's character and reputation will fall apart and be greatly reduced, like in the Empress and the Crown prince and Beethoven and Goethe's story in the poem, Beethoven's letters.
In Chinese culture, there are many descriptions of self-esteem. Share a story about how to earn self-esteem. A little boy picked up the chrysalis and went home to see it become a butterfly. After a while, he saw that a small crack had appeared in the cocoon. The butterfly struggled inside for several hours before it came out. It's obviously stuck. He did not have the heart to use the scissors to cut open the pupa and let the butterfly out. However, the butterfly that emerged had not yet sprouted wings and was too fat to fly. He soon died. The child did not understand that the butterfly did not struggle in the pupa, nor did it have a chance to grow strong wings. There are many people who have no real talent in their Life but are eager to succeed. They always look forward to getting help from others; however, other people do not incline their lives on unexpected help. Moreover, people can help others because of their clans, religions, or status. Everyone expects success, but you cannot succeed if there is no painful struggle; you can only achieve your own self-esteem in the struggle. According to Zhang Heng, a scholar of the Eastern Han Dynasty, "Life depends on diligence. If you don't ask, how can you gain? The key to life is to be diligent, not to explore (labor), and then which come the harvest? That is to say, a person’s life lies in diligence, not actively seek what also cannot get”. Therefore, this implies that the key to Life is being diligent and not being active in labor. In this case, the harvest and reward are in diligence and not seek what is impossible to find.
Zhang Heng regards diligence as a process of "breaking the cocoon." Butterflies struggle for a long time to break the cocoon to grow their wings and become strong. If they give up, they must die from it. To live, one must learn to love Life because Life is not easy; one has to learn to truly love to delete the world because this is the basis of enjoying Life. Whether one loves himself or loves or the world, only when love becomes a determination, a judgment, or a promise can one truly appreciate Life's humbleness and dignity. When you work hard through these processes, you will be successful, and you will find that you slowly win your own confidence! When you have self-esteem, you will find that it is a pillar of a person's survival; if you don't earn your dignity through hard work, people are like a skeleton with hearts that have no meaning; self-esteem is an indispensable part of a person's soul. Self-esteem is also the manifestation of a person's self-cultivation. Only those who know others will respect self-respect. And only when a person learns self-esteem will they be self-restraint. Only when a person has self-esteem can he maintain his own reputation and cherish his own personality. A person that has self-esteem will not let others bully you or insult you.
Historically this has been discussed in many ways. According to Belinsky, the Soviet writer in the European culture, self-esteem elevates an individual's soul. Therefore, there is a need to learn and practice self-respect through self-control and develop the power to resist all forms of temptations and contempt, including not being moved by high officials and wealth and withstanding all kinds of threats from the enemy. Such characters can be borrowed from a classic Chinese style of the great man, who is never shaken by any form of riches nor honor, nor humbleness, poverty, threats, or forces. Thus, it talks about self-esteem in different cultures; every culture starts from the same point of view, all have been talking about coincidences in the same sense. Because only with self-esteem can people at any time all know their own choice and their principles. Only by striving forward can one have enough wisdom and ability to maintain our dignity.
Simultaneously, if people want others to respect, they must learn how to respect others. No matter how respecting others is a need for self-respect as well as self-improvement. The most basic manifestation of respect for others is polite to others, respecting others' work, and respecting others' personalities. To truly respect others, one must empathize with them from their point of view and appreciate and accept others. Secondly, do not harm other people's personality. In this way, not only are they happy to others but also improve their own. In a word, learn to respect others to get respect from others. Only when others respect you can you become a self-respecting and confident person.
Similarly, the Life of human beings is equated to artworks and paintings; we should all strive towards beautifying it at all times. If a work of art is not well polished, it is not easy to be appreciated. No one is unable to recover and correct the past; what we can do is start now, learn to take responsibility for Life, and turn the chrysalis into a butterfly; this is the best way to gain self-esteem. From the efforts to find self-esteem, self-love to make Life a perfect work of art, self-esteem is always the fire in our hearts, souls, and the master of our lives. As long as we stand firm in our beliefs, no one can deprive us of our self-esteem in our hearts, and no one can damage the character with which we protect our self-esteem. They can defeat their people only yourself! Let each of us have strong self-esteem, hard to live, do our own master, do the strong Life, do the success of the cause!
