Week 8 Discussion Question
Part 1: OPTION 1
Go to the real-time Earthquake map at USGS: https://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/map/ .
· Take a look at the latest earthquakes in the US. How strong were they? Where were they located?
· Now zoom out on the map so you can see the entire world. How strong was the strongest recent quake, and where was it?
· Note the red lines on the map. How do you think these relate to Wegener's theories and Plate Tectonics?
· Do you notice any correlation between the dots representing earthquakes and the red lines? Why do you think that is?
*Your response should be at least 125 words long, written in paragraph form and should relate what you see on the website with what you learned in the textbook about Plate Tectonics*
Make a substantive reply to at least two fellow students.

For your primary post, provide a link to a current news article or science article that is related to at least one topic from Chapter 20 “Rocks & Minerals” and/or Chapter 21 “Plate Tectonics and Earth’s Interior.”

Chapter 20 question 103 what is the difference between the minerals that make up a rock and the minerals we find in dietary supplement? When the composition is the same but the arrangement of atoms is different, the minerals are called polymorphs minerals found in dietary supplements are human-made inorganic compounds that contain elements (calcium, potassium, magnesium, and iron). necessary for life functions. Is it possible to supplement our diet by simply eating rocks? you can't eat rocks every day eating raw unprocessed rock will be tough on the teeth and possibly unpleasant when it, ahem, exists but probably won’t kill you rocks are tough on your GI tract, as they travel down, they can abraid the inside of your esophagus, stomach, and intestines, causing inflammation at the very least and rupture and subsequent bacterial infection at the worst. Everyday we consider minerals as part of our diet (vitamins and minerals) provide the raw minerals needed for industry (aluminum for cans, iron for steel, etc...) from these 2 simple examples it is easy to see the importance of minerals in the geosphere and in our lives. That’s the concepts from the text. Does it mention cover or depend on? Yes it does. is the article more of or less detailed on the science than the textbook ?
