PAPER
Social Justice and Family Policy Spring 2019 Presentation Schedule and Instructions
Presentation instructions are also noted on the syllabus. However, generally, students must complete presentations in
PowerPoint and they must be uploaded the night before (by 12am) one is scheduled to present (or s/he will face a deduction of
two points off their presentation grade, Canvas records time/date when files are uploaded). PowerPoints should be no more
than ten slides (slides that include reference list(s) are not included), and presentations should not go any longer than seven
mins. Absolutely no videos are to be included, as they take up additional time.
Moreover, in a highly condensed manner (because presentations are seven min), students should be sure to hit on each of the
major parts of their paper in their presentation, and to do this, one should follow the outline specified in the instructional sheet
provided on the critical essay. Thus, presentations should follow the basic outline of one’s paper. Citations should be inserted
into the PowerPoint where appropriate and students should ensure that presentations are proofread for grammar and
punctuation, as they will be graded on these factors too. As a presenter, one’s overall goal is to essentially successfully defend
his/her policy position to the class and to be able to engage in Q&A regarding their research.
Remember, this is a capstone course at the 400 level, and; therefore, expectations will be much higher, so pay close attention
to both the minor and large details. Students are expected to be ready to present by the time their assigned date has arrived,
dates are non-negotiable.
