1. Explain the importance of appropriate selection of project management (PM) application systems in regards to meeting the internal and external objectives of a project.

There are different system applications that help a project manager in successfully managing a project. In the previous week study section, we had been discussing the list of systems that effectively help in project management. We also looked into the case of Texas City Disaster and the failure of BP to learn Texas City lessons before Deepwater. In the previous week study section, we did discuss regarding the reason behind such a great disaster, the Deepwater explosion that leads to the oil spill in 2010.

We also discussed the important role of linear thinking for effective management in different levels and aspects. A project manager has to make use of the linear thinking that allows thought to process in a sequential manner. In the mist of challenges and issues, linear thinking helps in thinking straight, which is the most effective way of thinking that bring forth solutions for any form of management issues. Secondly, is the system engineering. It is true that system engineering plays a very important role in project management. The common ground of project management and system engineering share in PM is that they collaborate in successful projects, moreover, training project managers to think systematically. In project management the system engineering is especially used for complex system development, it addresses interconnectivity different from the traditional WBS approaches of project management. The system engineering helps in solving wicked problems, as well as training project managers to be effective. The system engineering even trains project managers to think systematically. Systematic thinking is very much essential for the success of any project in the mist of challenges and difficulties. Looking at the mistakes committed in the Deepwater Horizon case, this weekly study aim towards enriching project managers with the complete understanding of the different application systems of project management.
