EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

On (add first class meeting date), Dr.XXX, Professor of Management at XXXX University, XXX , XXX authorized a study to compare the characteristics of two studio pianos–the Baldwin 243 and the Kawai CE8-–of approximately equal monetary value in order to determine which has better construction and quality and, therefore, which would be the better buy. What you researched; this paragraph identifies the research question.

Secondary data for the study was gathered from books, magazine articles, the Internet, and brochures from piano sales representatives. Primary data was obtained through interviews with Baldwin and Kawai piano salespersons. Explain how the research was conducted.

Findings show that the Baldwin and the Kawai have some similar features. However, the following characteristics show the main differences between the two pianos: What was discovered through research is enumerated and answers the “What?” question.

1. The tenor section contains single-wrapped strings in the Baldwin, which helps to give the utmost vibration, whereas the strings in the Kawai’s tenor section are not wrapped.

2. The Baldwin has feathered ribs, which are not embedded in the piano frame and allow the sound board to vibrate more freely, whereas the Kawai has a radial fan pattern to allow free string vibration.

3. The Baldwin’s plate stands rigid under the pressure of the strings, whereas the Kawai’s full-perimeter plate helps strengthen the piano itself and prevent soundboard warpage.

4. The Baldwin has a 19-ply hardened maple pinblock, which provides longer holding power and less frequent tuning of the pins, whereas the Kawai has a solid rock maple pinblock with five laminations to provide holding power.

5. The Baldwin warranty includes a provision whereby a defective piano may be replaced under certain circumstances, whereas the Kawai warranty does not include the provision.

It is concluded that the Baldwin 243 studio piano has better quality and construction than the Kawai CE8 and would be the better buy. As a result, it is recommended that the Baldwin 243 studio piano be purchased. The first sentence answers the question, “So what?” The second sentence answers the question, “Now what?”
