Materials:
Balance, beaker, Bunsen Burner, test tube, Erlenmeyer Flask, Graduated Cylinder, Filter Paper, Funnel, wellplate, Mortar and Pestle, Test Tube Rack, and Goggles.
Procedure:
In this experiment we had to weigh a vitamin C tablet by Balance, then crush the tablet by a mortar and pestle. We added the crushed vitamin C tablet to a clean 250 mL Erlenmeyer flask and then we added 100 mL of distilled water. We mixed it all together by stirring the rod and we let it set for 5 minutes. Make sure to mix it thoroughly to completely dissolve the mixture. Filter the mixture through the filter paper and funnel to separate what did not dissolve. Discard the filter paper and keep the mixture. Add 20 drops of vitamin C to the wellplate by using the disposable plastic pipet. Next, add two drops of starch solution to the vitamin C in the wellplate and stir. Then add iodine solution to the mixture of starch solution and vitamin C in the wellplate using another disposable plastic pipet. Count the drops of iodine solution while stirring until the mixture turns to a blue-black in color that is when the reaction reaches neutralization. It is recommended to keep a piece of white paper under the wellplate to better see the reaction. Record all the data and repeat the procedure on two more samples.
