Strategy Analysis 2
Threat: Insurance costs and uninsured patient numbers are rising. Number of those without
insurance increased from 28.6 billion in 2016 to 33.2 million in 2019 which is a rise of 16% in 3
years (Gaffney, Himmelstein, & Woolhandler, 2020).
Strategy: Create a more affordable healthcare facility that allows our patients to have insurance
options
EHR Support: Cerner allows for staff to tell patients if their insurance is in our coverage area
before patient is seen as well as able to calculate the percentage of uninsured patients
Action Item: Expand insurance coverage, transition to value-based care, create a finance
department that helps patients and their families know what options are out there as well as helping
them apply for any assistance like Medicaid
Targeted Goal: Implement a Patient Financial Service department by 3rd quarter of 2022
