Personality Identification

Introduction

A personality that a person exhibits plays a massive role in defining their characteristics; moreover, it shows the environments where the person can best work. Considering that their different organizations with different organizational cultures and environments, it's essential for a person to identify their personality to properly align themselves with the best environment where they thrive, since a person's personality shapes human behavior, directly affecting a person's creativeness and life satisfaction (Ali, 2018). Considering the impacts, one has to identify the personality that he possesses; this is performed through 'The Myers-Briggs Personality Indicator' assessment which displays a person's personality type, the strengths that a person might have, and preferences. To expand my understanding of this topic, I conduct a personality test; afterward, I analyze the test results displaying four dimensions of my personality and their impact on my communication and behavior. Moreover, the paper analyzes a co-worker's personality type, showing the visible impacts on the person's communications and conflict resolution. Comment by Varaidzo Nyamandi: Introductionn detailed, yet concise, well done here!

Basic Dimensions of MBTI

Myer-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) emerges from four dimensions of two categories for each dimension (Furnham, 2017). The dimensions are Extraversion (E) versus Introversion (I), Sensing (S) versus Intuition (N), Thinking (T) versus Feeling (F), and Judging (J) versus Perceiving (P) (Furnham, 2017). This indicator came into light from Jung's reasoning on personality, which can effectively display who a person is and the impacts of their personality on their preferences (Furnham, 2017). The indicator primarily functions by sorting a person into a specific category in all the four dimensions; afterward, the dimensions are combined, forming the person's personality type, for instance, ENFP.

Extraversion (E) versus Introversion (I)

This dimension deals with where a person focuses their attention, either extraverted or introverted (Dee et al., 2017). An individual with extraverted preferences majorly express themselves through talking; hence, they get their energy from a social setting, whereas a person with an introverted preference get their energy from the inside as they meticulously reflect on what they will talk about or say; hence they are reenergized by getting back to themselves.

Sensing (S) versus Intuition (N)

This dimension entails how a person absorbs information by sensing or intuition (Dee et al., 2017). Persons that take in information by sensing capitalize on their five senses hence taking in practical and factual information. On the contrary, people that take in information by intuition capitalize on their sixth sense.

Thinking (T) versus Feeling (F)

This dimension deals with how a person makes decisions which can either be through thinking or feeling (Dee et al., 2017). The persons who rely on thinking steps back, offering room for thinking during decision-making coming up with a fair decision. On the other hand, persons who rely on feeling decide based on the impacts of the decision on the people involved. The thinking people formulate decisions from their heads, whereas feeling types of person formulate decisions from their heart.

Judging (J) versus Perceiving (P)

This dimension deals with how a person structures and orientates themselves to the adjacent environment, encompassing judging and perceiving types of people (Dee et al., 2017). For the judging types, they pay attention to plan formulations and implementation, while for perceiving types are pay attention to flexibility.

Importance of Identifying Personality

A person can develop a better understanding of oneself and adjacent people; hence, one increases flexibility and effectiveness when communicating. By understanding oneself, a person can solve problems quickly, improve communication, create meaningful bonds, make better decisions, and appropriately react to stress. All this facilitates a proper team development process allowing team members to understand each other. Comment by Varaidzo Nyamandi: Good description of MBTI elements, good!

My Personality

My personality test results were fascinating; considering the 16 possible personality types, my four-letter personality type was INTP, described as Turbulent Logician since I displayed a higher percentage in Introversion by 57%, Intuition by 56%, Thinking by 55%, and Perceiving by 51%. From the result, one can describe me as quiet and analytical. I enjoy time alone, often questioning how different things function and formulating solutions to daily issues within real-time (NERIS Analytics Limited, 2013b). It is also described as a rich-inner world as I often pay attention to my internal thoughts rather than the external environment. Moreover, I have a relatively small social circle; however, I tend to lean on particular groups of people that I truly cherish. My characteristics significantly align with the INTP individuals; therefore, the test was on point.

The personality that I exhibit impacts how I communicate and associate with other peers, which I knew of before I performed the test. Firstly, since I exhibit an introversion percentage of 57%, I like spending most of my time alone in quiet places allowing me to reason over different issues (NERIS Analytics Limited, 2013b). Unlike an extroverted individual who gets reenergized from interacting with different persons or a large group, I lose energy in social settings. After interacting with a broad group of persons, I usually have a dying urge to spend the rest of my time by myself to attain the balance I need. Often I exhibit shyness around different individuals that I am not well conversant with; however, I am much amiable and friendlier to the persons closer to me; for instance, friends and family members. While communicating and interacting with different persons seem respectful, thoughtful, and accurate; however, in some instances, I seem a bit remote.

Moreover, considering that I embrace solitude and in-depth reasoning, I sometimes am not friendly to different people as I seem detached. Often than not, I dramatically embrace deep thought, losing track of my outside environment. I prefer to be quiet, relaxed, and open-minded in a social setting. The personality type might seem like a challenge in different social situations when fellow peers dispute my beliefs and conviction. Also, I mainly depend on my thoughts; hence, other persons find me strenuous to persuade. Comment by Varaidzo Nyamandi: Well - explained here!

CO-Worker’s MBTI Style

In the workplace, often than not, one meets different people with different personalities, which is a pro considering that organizations will have different people with different strengths and weaknesses; hence an organization can capitalize on each person's strength to shrink the weakness that all the employee's exhibit (Johnson, 2019). In an organization, the leader stands out due to a unique personality type that enables the organization to move towards its vision and missions (Johnson, 2019). One such individual with a fascinating personality is my employer or my organization's leader.

My employer often finds it easy to associate with different people no matter their position or class; he clicks with them within seconds, creating a strong bond with different people; hence, boosting a solid network that is equally important to the employees. Moreover, he easily motivates all the organization's employees, boosting an exciting workforce despite the conditions, pressure from customers, and challenges. From the organizational leader's traits, he is assertive, confident, and outspoken.

Such traits are attributed to the ENTJ personality type considering that he is a commander exhibiting Extraverted, Intuitive, Thinking, and Judging personality categories (NERIS Analytics Limited, 2013a). As such, considering my organizational leader's trait, he enjoys spending time with other people; hence, explaining why he easily clicks with different people within a matter of seconds. Moreover, he exhibits strong verbal and non-verbal skills while communicating and interacting with other people; hence gets quickly energized in a social setting. Considering that he is the organization's leader, he often emphasizes the organization's vision, which aligns with traits that ENTJ individuals have of focusing on the future finding ways to better and improve themselves and the individuals around them (NERIS Analytics Limited, 2013a). Also, my employer is a planner considering that he appropriately examines the future and develops a blueprint/roadmap that guides all the employees within the organization. Considering that planning is an arduous task, he is highly rational and good at identifying problems and opportunities.

My leader's traits significantly impact his relationship since he gains energy from interacting with people (NERIS Analytics Limited, 2013a). Moreover, he has a soft spot for passionate and vibrant conversations. Often such traits intimidate different people considering the self-confidence he displays and his excellent verbal and non-verbal communication skills. When a good idea comes into mind, he mostly shares it with his fellow team members, which has enabled the organization to grow significantly. Despite his trait, while interacting with different people, he is not perfect at emotional intelligence. He finds it difficult to read other peoples' emotions, thinking that every person is on the same page as he is on.

Instance of Conflict with the CO-Worker

Considering that we have different personality types, it is questionable how we bond effectively and resolve conflicts. Conflicts between workplace team members are inevitable; the way the members respond to conflict either impacts one party or creates satisfaction between both parties. Once in a while, we have engaged in conflict with the team leader due to contrasting views and ideas in different circumstances; however, we have solved the conflict and arisen to perfect solutions favoring both parties.

Despite reaching reasonable solutions for both parties on the past conflicts, it has been quite hard to achieve a perfect solution since I value my opinions and views and I am hard to persuade considering that my employer is a leader he often insists on performing different things in a particular way as planned. Moreover, the fact that persons exhibiting ENTJ personalities find it challenging to analyze a person's emotions aggravates the conflict since the leader does not know how to read what a person's feelings are and what their thinking is making it very challenging to solve the conflict (NERIS Analytics Limited, 2013a).

In most instances, while solving a conflict, I have adopted a passive nature since I exhibit an INTP personality that fosters a person to embrace a quiet nature full of reasoning (NERIS Analytics Limited, 2013b). As such, I often get easily annoyed by the decisions made by my employer without considering my view on the matter. Despite this, we have had successful conflict resolutions. Considering that my employer is empathic, he is a good listener. He opens up to new ideas this hence my views are listened to and acknowledged fostering a better understanding and solutions to the conflict.

Considering my past experiences with conflict, I have realized that there are various things that I should and should not do to solve a conflict. Firstly, I should clearly express my views and thoughts and let the other party analyze the ideas. Afterward, suppose they critique the views and opinions I should know why by listening to their point of view; this will enable me to feel more satisfied suppose my beliefs are turned down. On the contrary, I should not reserve my thoughts in a conflict considering that I possess a reserved personality; this will foster dissatisfaction, ruining my morale towards a project/work. Moreover, I should be willing to listen to the other parties' reasoning and correctly critique them if they are wrong, enabling the conflict to be resolved positively. Suppose I reserve my thoughts; it will result in a conflict being negatively addressed, which might increase the timeline of the conflict. It might also raise other issues that I dislike about the other party, significantly aggravating the conflict. As for my employer, he ought to understand other people's emotions and feelings during a conflict, allowing him to reach a consensus easily considering the other party not only feels listened to, which will positively resolve the conflict. On the other hand, my employer can create backlashes while solving conflict; suppose he constantly pushes for his viewpoint, ignoring the opinions of others, making the other party feel pressed and unworthy. Comment by Varaidzo Nyamandi: You described the co-worker's MBTI, the conflcit and hte solution, well done here!

Conclusion

In a nutshell, every person has a unique personality that he ought to be aware of, enabling the person to understand himself and know environments in which they thrive. Moreover, knowing one's personality type enables a person to effectively communicate with other people, creating meaningful relationships with different people. Identification of one's personality test can be achieved by performing a Myer-Briggs Type Indicator test, which will display where a person focuses their attention, how a person takes in information, how a person makes decisions, and how a person structures/orientates themselves to the adjacent environment. By identifying this, a person will have effectively pinpointed their personality; for instance, my personality type is INTP since I am a reserved person and attain my energy from deep thinking. By identifying my personality, I can know how to communicate with different people and how to handle disputes with various individuals; hence, I can constantly improve myself.
