Peer Response 1

· Review your peers' response and assume the role of the fire department. Looking over your peer’s plan to rectify and monitor the situation, would this facility now pass inspection? Thoroughly explain why it would or would not pass and provide your peer with additional suggestions to make their plan even better.

· Responses to peers may not be in the form of “I agree… good post”.  One or two sentence replies are not adequate.  Responses must go further in depth and must be supported with specific, personal experience, relevant textual connections, and/or alternate perspectives and questions.   100 word-replies would be an appropriate recommended guideline.

PEERS POST:

Hello Everyone

· Explain why these violations are considered infractions.

· Non-working smoke alarms were found

· Objects (artwork) hung from the ceiling impede smoke alarm productivity

· Obstructions in the hallways

Non-working smoke alarms in an Early Childhood Center are a violation because in an active fire those alarms mean survival and safety for the children in that center. During the year there are fire drills to prepare the student on how to evacuate in case of a fire. If the center encounters a fire, and the smoke alarms aren’t operating the students would not have the warning that is needed to have enough time to get everyone out safely. No center should pass inspection if their smoke alarms aren’t working, and they should also pay a fine. Smoke alarms will be checked weekly, and someone will be assigned each week to make sure the smoke alarms continue working properly.

Objects hung from the ceiling impede smoke alarm productivity by possibly blocking smoke from reaching the smoke alarms. Hanging objects can also fuel a fire more quickly throughout a room or building, and with students being present the situation could be detrimental. Objects hung from the ceiling impede smoke alarm productivity by blocking the flow of smoke. When the school year starts teachers look for ways to aid the student with their learning by using certain posters, and they aren’t aware of a material being highly combustible when they’re decorating the school. Combustible materials increase the risk of injury or death, because of how quickly fire would burn with those materials. To fix this issue at the beginning of the year we will have training with our teachers, to discuss how they can decorate their classrooms within the limit of the Fire Department. and we will do monthly walk thoughts to check for any violations.

Obstructions in the hallways are a violation of a Child Development Center because hallways are considered exits, and the fire code requires that the hallways remain free of things that could get in the way of someone needing to exit in an emergency. To correct these prior inspections, we can remove items such as boxes shelves, and boxes out of the way, and possibly throw things in the trash. To comply with the Fire Department and keep our center in good standing, we will throw things out that are broken and no longer serving us. Also, designate a person to monitor for any infraction that goes against the Fire Code of safety, so this is no longer a problem.
