Abstract In this paper is an explanation of business analytics Stop & Shop, the pros, and cons of "Scan It!" service of Stop & Shop, my assessment of the used analytics' level of maturity and the concerns of privacy.

Keywords: 1 Analytics of business, strata of business, trends

Stop & Shop-Scan IT!

The industry of grocery and supermarket a market that is extremely competitive and it thrives on the advantages of retaining the loyalty of customers. In order to increase their share in the market, Stop & shop saw the need for incorporating the analytics of business to the process its customers' purchasing habits. 1 It introduced to the market a new concept called "Scan It" This is an electrical device that is portable which provides customers with the ability of scanning and bagging the purchases when shopping hence saving the time of the customers when it comes to checkout when the shopping trip comes to an end.

2 The incorporation of business analytics had many benefits as seen by Stop & Shop. 1 The use of the scanner by the customers allows the business to create a history of purchase of items. The history of purchase allows the business to meet the demand for the products that move faster. The knowledge of the trend of purchasing enable the business to know when more product in bulk, therefore, giving an opportunity for saving cost for customers and increasing profits for the business.

1 Stop & Shop can use the knowledge of the purchasing habits of customers to develop offer triggers on the items that have not been purchased in a few weeks by customers. 2 "Scan It" gives a customer a notification if a product has not been brought in a couple of weeks and gives coupons on the article. 2 The "Scan It" technology also gives triggers on complimenting articles. 1 For instance, when a customer does a scan for spaghetti, it gives a reminder of purchasing spaghetti sauce, garlic toast, and salad items. 2 The "Scan It" tool indicates the location of a customer in the store. While a customer is a certain isle, a trigger to offer customer coupons for an item to be purchased will the set by the technology. Ultimately, the triggers collectively can lead to an increase in the market's sales.

Scanning allows keeping the tracks of the totals of spending of the customers thus giving the customers a sense of managing their habits of spending. 1 This also differentiates the markets of Stop & Shop from other markets and also builds the loyalty of customer to the business. Customers have the feeling that the business saves their time and money as it allows them to manage their experience in shopping. The provision of coupons on the bought items saves the money of the customers. Scanning and bagging of purchase save the customer's time by avoiding the check-out line that is long. 2 The "Scan It" technology has the benefit of reducing staffing at the aisle of checking out. 1 The quick service the pint of checking out reduces the numbers of lanes of check-out needed to be open thus reducing the levels of staff.

Stop & Shop also found out the use of technology has some disadvantages. The education of employees needed to be addressed as the first obstacle. The employees needed training on customer service provisions for customers who are new to the service. The business wanted to avoid the aggravation of customers by a service meant to provide them a shopping experience that is better. 1 In addition, there is a risk of theft. There may be instances of customers not scanning the items before putting them in the shopping bags or do a scan of a generic item when placing an item of the brand in their shopper's bag. In order to curb this risk, the business allows the only holder of the loyalty card to use "Scan It" 1 An audit system was also incorporated in the process of checking out. The use of verification allows the employees at the checkout to do a comparison of the receipts and the items in the shopping bags. Moreover, not all items that have a barcode on them can be done scanning for. Following this risk, the business had to come up with a mechanism that a customer would weigh the product for the production of a scanning barcode.

Being the head of Stop & Stop, I do an assessment of the use of analytics by ensuring first that IS Strategy, the business strategy is aligned with the organizational strategy. Included in this are incentive systems, the metrics for measurement of initiatives' success, corporate culture and the analytic usage process while using the analytics to build a competitive advantage (Pearlson & Saunders, 2013). 1 By this, I will make that we get the competitive advantage in the market. I will also ensure that the use of analytics has strong leadership. For the company, I will appoint a CIO so that there will be an expert on the subject matter to see the program. The CIO is a vital management team's component albeit the decision-making process of the organization is not driven by it.

2 The customers of Stop & Shop are concerned about their privacy in the use of the technology. It is vital to give customers an assurance that the security of the system is up to date and it has measures of control to deter theft of identity which can lead the company to incur significant losses. To ensure the protection of customers, the business will limit the access to databases. 1 Synchronizing of all mechanisms and protocols built in the computer systems and the network will ensure system protection from access that is unauthorized (Pearlson & Saunders, 2013). The customers of the Stop & Shop will need to have awareness of the kind of information and how the business uses the information.

Stop & Shop has created loyalty of customers by the use of a service that aids customers save money. 1 Not only does the service help customers save money but it also captures customer information on trends of purchasing which can be used to control the levels of inventory in the business' warehouses. This lead to an increase in the sales of Stop & shop at the same time offering customers with a service not provided by any other business currently.
