Hi Samantha - You earned a grade of C on the final paper (79%). This paper has a good foundation, but there are several areas needing more detail and explanation. Please review my feedback below.Partially described challenge or opportunity and provided information on why this topic was professionally important/relevant. The purpose of the Strategic Communication Plan is to be clear, specific and intentional in conveying a message. Effective communication skills are one of the top sought skills in the workforce today. In the professional workplace four purposes of communication exist: To inform. To persuade. To convey goodwill. To establish credibility. Determine the broader purpose and then specify the intent of this communication.
You successfully completed a communication goal. It is clearly defined. A message of what you want to convey was established. Remember that organizational communication is concerned with the movement of information within the company structure. The Strategic Communication Plan’s purpose is to be clear, specific and intentional in conveying a message. Effective communication skills are one of the top sought skills in the workforce today.
The communication satisfactorily includes an audience analysis, draws relevant conclusions about the audience, or incompletely addresses the characteristics, motivations, and expertise of the audience. Review the tone used to convey message. Audience analysis takes into consideration the receiver’s point of view. Ideas may be better received if expressed appropriately for the targeted audience. You cultivate an attitude by determining if the message reflects the high standards of a business professional and appropriate tone. These are motivators for the audience to determine intent: I/Sender centered or Receiver centered message.
The key message was partially delivered, unclear and/or is illogical. It does not align with the goals/needs of the audience. Consider if you relayed the message. Did you get your point across? The whole goal is to ensure that your audience under stands the message. The strategic plan sets the stage for the facilitation of communication. Some methods may be face to face. Others may be just as effective or ineffective in other modalities. Ask yourself the question, did you accomplish what you set out to do?
The communication partially provide substantial points, reasons, or justifications to support the key message. Support your message. If it is a claim, a general statement, then it is debatable. If it is a communication to express factual data; evidence – a specific supportive statement should be clear. This is proof. Your audience may rely on your credibility to make decisions. Especially if you are a leader. Present and interpret Factual Evidence.
The communication partially identified a communication style and/or channel with a sufficient rationale. The channel you select is the means through which you deliver your message. Channel selection is an important part of the strategic communication process. It is all about knowing your goal and your audience, then choosing the means to communicate that is most likely to produce the outcome you want. Refer to week three (3): Channel Selection.
There was a satisfactory request made of the audience based on the communication. An action request may be equated to a call to action or a charge. To carry out an action, the plan should be understood by the audience. Substantiating the other parts of the strategic plan for the buy-in at the end. If you can add value, if you can bring useful ideas to the communication, you can build a bridge between you and your audience. Knowing their goals helps you do that. Knowing the goals of your audience helps you establish what your shared goals might be. This reciprocity, in which you both help each other, is vital to building a connection between you and your audience. See week four (4); What Are Their Goals.
