Rubric.docx

You will search for at least 2 -3 news reports (articles, broadcasts, videos) that address the ongoing refugee crisis in Europe and surrounding areas. You will analyze the discourse and imagery used in the media coverage, and discuss what perspectives are portrayed or possibly omitted that may influence public perceptions.

Some questions to consider are the following:

· What country is each news item published in?

· Is the news source considered reputable?

· Do the news items project a positive or negative view of migration?

· Are images used to amplify the message? In what way?

· Are there other reports presenting a different view of the same event?

· How much of the story is fact-based and how much is author opinion?

· How did you ascertain if the items you chose are from a reputable source?

Your report should be 4-5 pages double-spaced (12 size font, 1 inch margins).

You must include:

· the links and citations of the articles

· the context of the news items

· what stood out to you to choose these particular news items

· include how a better understanding of global issues and regional background knowledge can help navigate biased media and fake news.                               Please proofread your paper before submitting.

**For those of you who speak French, Portuguese or Spanish, you are welcome to search for and submit articles in those languages for the assignment. While many countries have English news sources, it will be interesting to see comparisons of news items in the native language where possible.
