Topic: Superheroes

Title: The Anime Superhero

(Purpose: to analyze this concept)

Introduction: Background information (mention general aspects of the superhero genre; well known characters, e.g. Indiana Jones, John Wick, Batman; basic characteristics) Then mention the Japanese Anime studio and how it came to be – short summary; mention that one its most popular storytelling genres is action adventure, which has in some way re-invented the superhero.

Focus Question: Does Anime distort the superhero genre?

Thesis: (answers the focus question): While anime stories often diverge from the run-of-the mill action heroes, they don’t distort the superhero genre but rather use a mixture of humor, pathos and pop culture to explore what it really means to be a hero.

Body Sections (Criteria, 1,2,3):

Criteria 1: Unlike popular story houses like DC and Marvel which critics would say invented the superhero,” Anime will often use humor to define its heroes, and thus portraying a more identifiable hero.
