Inquiry 1 Rough Draft
I have encountered various circumstances that have changed my life. However, the significant event that I recall vividly is the car accident that ended up in my admission to the hospital. The memorable thing about the unfortunate occurrence is that I was driving fast on a Friday evening on the way to town. I was following a truck closely and upon overtaking, I heard a banging sound that resulted in my presence into the hospital with injuries. Even though I have fully recovered, I consider the lesson critical to my change of perception in life. Hence, I can state categorically that the accident features as the most significant event that changed my view of life.
The day of the accident still ringers in my mind today. It was ion a Friday evening, and my parents were out, attending a work-related retreat. This meant I was alone at home, having previously refused to go to my uncle’s place to spend the weekend. Immediately they had left, I headed for the garage for the rose-red Audi parked at the far end. I walked over to it admiring all its features, and then used the moment to explore the car. Having previously worked with my father at the garage, I knew exactly where the car keys were kept. I ignited the car and drove out of the runway. I did not care that I had no license, and my father prohibition to drive the car could not stop my intentions. I drove the car through the runway into the highway at lightning speed, as the roar of the engine pushed me to drive faster. Little did I know that I was about to pay for driving when it is illegal.
As I was overtaking around a bend, another car suddenly appeared ahead of us. I froze as I did not know what to do when faced with the possibility of death. It was at this instance when I suddenly swayed the car out of the road and into a tree where I passed out. I woke up after two days in the hospital had several bones cracked and with bandages around my head. I was discharged after two months, and although I fully recovered, the incidence taught me many lessons and entirely changed my life.
While recuperating at the hospital, I recalled many things by imagining that I survived by a whisker. I started recalling the possibility of failing to see the loved ones that I ignored visiting. I also thought about heeding to my father advices. I used the moment at the facility interacting with the nurse and seeing other people succumb to different difficulties. The reality of the confrontation with the challenges inspired some inspiration in me. I changed and begun treasuring life unlike before. At present, I value the need of listening to advice and use every opportunity possible reconnecting with the loved ones as my uncle. I came to the realization that life can end because of a small error in decision or negligence of advice such as driving without a license. I therefore, take life seriously and heed to advice keenly. I also share the same stories to others unwilling to listen to advice of their seniors (Feldman, Sköldberg, Brown, & Horner, 2004). I make decision while considering all the implications. The most important thing is that I appreciate the fact that I live each day and celebrate the breath of life.
