Introduction
The purpose of studying the raw materials for myself includes exploring, discovering, and
gathering as much information as possible, which I may use to portray and explain my life. Every
person has different perceptions, characters, and personalities. These unique characteristics
influence the type of life and behavior that a person has. The raw materials for myself that I will
address in this paper include my strengths, potential strengths, faults, bad habits, interests, desires,
passions, personality, and core values. These raw materials will guide me in life and will ensure
that I live a fulfilling presence as much as I can.
Raw Materials
Strengths
Most of the time, people assume that they know their strengths. I also believed that I knew
mines. However, it was mandatory to perform a test that would indicate the reality. I followed the
link provided in the assignment description and requirements. It redirected me to "Free Aptitude
Test for Strengths and Weaknesses [Full]." Another link provided by the instructor shifted me to
the "Assessment: Find Your Strengths" website. I answered the questions presented on the two
websites and received the results indicating my strengths. I also sought the feedback of my friends
about my strengths. That would enable me to compare their input and the outcomes I received
from the tests.
From the assessments, my most significant strength was curiosity. I scored 100% for this
strength. Curiosity is the zeal to keep on learning and dealing with challenging situations, in this
case. The assessment results indicated that I am always actively involved in all the projects as
much as possible. It also suggests that I love learning. I expose myself to new fields of learning
and a unique knowledge environment to keep my knowledge growing. The test results also
indicated that I prefer learning by teaching others and associating with people who enjoy learning.
The second-ranked strength was balance. It had a score of 94%. The outcomes of this
questionnaire indicated that I always love time management, and I push for it whenever I am. The
results also showed that I am not too fond of order, and I try my best to restore order in chaotic
situations. And I consider that it is accurate.
My third strength, as revealed by the assessment results, was communication. The results
showed that I am a good listener, and I volunteer to help in fostering engaging presentations.
Moreover, I am an excellent public orator, and I love promoting communication in my
relationships.
2
My fourth strength was teamwork. It had a score of 94%. The results of the assessment
indicate that I organize my life to my close relationships. It also suggested that I value loyalty;
therefore, I have a high likelihood of maintaining the same connections in my life. Additionally, it
indicated that I build genuine trusting relationships with the critical people around me.
My fifth strength was adaptability, with a score of 88%. Adaptability indicates the ability
to accommodate the unforeseen circumstances that are likely to occur in the future. The results
suggested that I strive to minimize the chores while maintaining a high level of achievement.
Additionally, it indicates that I foster other people's desire to learn and experiment by giving them
the required tools and room.
I expected curiosity to be part of my strengths. My inquisitive nature drives that and the
craving for constant learning. Although I love learning and teaching others, I did not know that I
relish associating with people who love to learn. This statement is true because I always teach my
friends about the things that I know. One of my other strengths that I expected to see from the
results of the assessment was balance. I am a great timekeeper, and I have always advocated for
the keeping of time. That is because keeping time ensures the achievement of all goals and
activities within time. I am always the timekeeper when it comes to my friends. I truly respect the
time of others in the way that I like others to respect mine
The other strengths included communication, teamwork, and adaptability. I expected to
have the first five strengths as I am aware that I promote them in my relationships. However, I did
not expect adaptability to be part of them. Although I perceive planning as dull and tedious, I find
myself planning often. The feedback that I received from my friends was almost like the results
from the assessment. Most of my friends identified my strengths correctly. Some of them even
used examples to show my strengths or how I manifested them in my day-to-day activities and
life. From this assessment, I identified a new strength that I was not aware of, adaptability.
3
Potential Strengths
Potential strength is anything that I believe that I could be good at with minimal practice.
For this category, I consulted my friends, co-workers, and family. That would give me a broader
perspective of the things that I could potentially be good at from the eye of the people that I spent
most of my time in different settings. Additionally, I did some introspection to identify what I like
to fulfill that nobody else knows how to do.
One of my potential strengths identified by most of my friends, family, and co-workers
was ambition. They indicated that I would be a very ambitious person with very minimal effort.
That is because I always strive for perfection, which would enable me to become ambitious
effectively. With my high curiosity, I would likely be very ambitious. That went in tandem with
being visionary. Most of them identified that I could easily be visionary. From the feedback I
received, it was clear that I was visionary, but not to the extent that my other stronger strengths
overshadowed it. That indicates that I can easily be visionary since I hold achieving what I have
set my mind to.
A potential strength that I identified from introspection was self-motivation. That has
always been my drive in all the activities that I undertake to perform. I usually motivate myself
not to lose sight of the primary reason I am engaging in a particular activity. It also enabled e to
keep my eye on the price. That makes it easy for me to continue working despite the challenges
that I meet along the way.
Another potential strength in my personality is strategic thinking. I thought that this would
be among my top five strengths from the assessment that I had taken. However, strategic thinking
was not part of the top five. I always see myself as a strategic thinker, though. That is because I
must think through everything before I take part in it. That enables me to envision the potential
outcomes and challenges faced if a particular situation arises. My friends, family, and co-workers
also agreed that I would quickly become a strategic thinker. Others had identified the strength
when I urged them about it.
From this category, I learned that I could achieve some strengths with minimal effort. I
engaged my well-known people in this category to enable them to help me identify my potential
strengths. I learned that these potential strengths that I had had not become my strengths Because
I spent less time growing them. Thus, I should devote some time to work on them so that I may
increase my strengths.
4
Faults or Bad Habits
To identify my bad habits and faults, I used 16personalities.com and the strength
assessment link that the instructor provided. The flaws and bad habits constitute a person’s
weaknesses or areas of opportunity. An individual has the space to improve on such sites. It is
essential to identify one’s weaknesses so that one may develop ways to develop themselves and
mitigate the weaknesses. In this case, I also asked my friends, family, and colleagues to help me
identify my weaknesses in the different settings where I interacted with all the three groups.
One of my weaknesses was salesmanship, pointed by the strengths assessment test I used
to identify my five main strengths. Salesmanship indicates the ability of a person to foster new
relationships that are healthy and improve their work outcomes. The results suggest that I was
weak when making new friendships, supported by the fact that I liked keeping only the people
around me and fostering trustful and effective relationships with them. Moreover, the results
indicate that I was rarely the initial point of contact and that I preferred meeting people performing
the required task and maintaining a professional relationship.
The main weakness exposed from 16personalities.com was loathing guidelines and rules.
My colleagues coincided with this result which indicates that I don't particularly appreciate
working by regulations. That is one of my bad habits. I love creating my own rules as long as I
achieve the desired outcome. Thus, I prefer controlling my work environment. That makes it more
conducive for me to work in it and be more productive. Another weakness is being conservative
and practical. I am rarely experimental with anything. I prefer doing things in the way they should
be. Additionally, I am conservative, indicating that I'm not too fond of change. However, my
strength of adaptability enables me to cope with change when it occurs.
5
All the weaknesses shown in these test results were what I was expecting to see since those are
the things that I do not like. My friends, family, and colleagues also coincided with the same
weaknesses, indicating that my deficiencies are obvious and portrayed in my day-to-day life. To
ensure that I change the weaknesses and improve them, I should develop an effective plan that I
will use to ensure that I am more productive. Thus, I should not fear or shy away from them.
Consequently, by facing my weaknesses and correcting them, I will be increasing my
marketability.
Interests, Desires, and Passions
The interests, desires, and passions emerge from the feelings of curiosity, excitement,
attention, and concern when a person is engaging in a particular activity. The interests, desires,
and passions that a person develops in different stages in life. Whitmore (2011) indicates that when
a person gives the world the best they have, they will receive the best. That suggests that a person’s
desires, passion, and interests play a crucial role in their lives. I used self-assessment to identify
my interests, desires, and warmth. I recognized that my interests, desires, and passion were very
much like some of my strengths.
One of the desires that I identified is being a better communicator and influencer. I have
always promoted communication in all the forums that I am part of. Communication is a tool used
to make the world a more accessible place to live. That is because it eradicates things such as
assumptions and people use factual data that is reliable. To ensure that I am a good communicator,
I enrolled in a communication class that equipped me with the skills and knowledge required to be
a better communicator.
Additionally, I strive to be a good communicator, but I also like promoting the virtue in
other people and using it to promote effective communication among people in groups. Another
desire that I have is time management. Since a young age, I have always been an ardent timekeeper.
My parents taught me the virtue and made it clear that time management was one thing that a
person should foster to become successful. My friends and my colleagues know that I am a
timekeeper, and some refer to me as a time freak. A passion that I identified in the self-assessment
and from my strengths is my passion for learning. That has helped me in my career when seeking
information that may be helpful for my career growth.
I asked my colleagues and friends about what they thought about my interests, desires, and
passions. Almost all of them agreed with the interests and passions that I told them I had identified.
That endorses that the passions and interests that I hard on are explicit in my day-to-day activities
and that another person can know if we interact with them deeply. From the self-assessment, I
learned that a person’s desires, interests, and passions are some of the things that fuel their
strengths. That is because when they continuously practiced, a person perfects them, thus
becoming strengths. For instance, I have been an ardent timekeeper since my childhood. That
indicates that I have learned the art of time management and perfected it. Thus, that is the reason
why it is part of my major strengths.
6
Personality
Personality is the unique characteristics and qualities that make an individual different from
the rest. There are 16 leading personalities. To know which of the 16 would match mine, I took
two personality tests. The first one was the Jung Typology Test used to identify my personality
among the primary 16ths. The other test was the big five personality test that categorizes a person’s
personality in one of the five personality tests identified.
In the big five personality test, I scored: 7% in the openness to experience, indicating that
the score was deficient, 83% in conscientiousness, indicating that the score was high, 82% in
extraversion, indicating that the score was high, 9% in agreeableness indicating that the score was
low, and 14% in the natural reactions saying that the score was low. According to this big five
personality test, my personality matches conscientiousness: the quality of wishing to do one’s work
or duty well and thoroughly. Thus, it is to reflect work ethics. This personality indicates that I am
disciplined when it comes to my work, and I relish performing the duties assigned diligently. This
personality reflects my exemplary organization skills. It also indicates that I have a solid sense of
responsibility, meaning that I am a workaholic person.
According to the 16 personality tests, the results indicated that my personality type is ESFJ.
It shows that I have a slight preference for extraversion over introversion (16%), a marginal
preference of sensing over intuition (1%), a slight preference of feeling over thinking (19%), and
a moderate preference of judging over perceiving (44%). This personality type indicates that I am
a general entertainer, and I take celebrations such as birthdays and holidays very seriously.
Additionally, it demonstrates that I enjoy being in charge and being a leader. Thus, people with
my personality type delegate duties to correct any problems or challenges identified. Additionally,
they provide services to others willing to help them. The ideal job for a person with my personality
is a job that entails interacting with others or a job that entails the performance of critical tasks.
From the assessment, I can explain my personality as ESFJ and conscientiousness. My
personality type reflects my strengths and interests. I love working, and my strengths promote that.
I did not know my personality type before taking the test, which was a fantastic activity for me
and very engaging. Identifying my personality is essential as it provides me with information
about myself, what I am likely to do, and what I am not likely to do. I identified that when I
continue increasing my strengths, they will affect my personality positively. Thus, I will continue
to ensure that I develop an upbeat personality to assure that I improve my productivity at my
workplace.
7
Core Values
The core values are the guiding principles that a person has in their life. The core value
dictates the actions that a person engaged in as well as their behavior. These core values are the
foundation of a person’s personality, and they play an integral role in a person’s strengths and
weaknesses. I used Kevin Daum’s article on Inc.com Define Your Personal Core Values: 5 Steps
(Daum, 2013), to identify my core values. After reading the article, I answered the questions to
recognize my core values.
Some of the core values that I identified were optimism, creativity, autonomy, work ethics,
honesty, and meaningful work. I can attest that I have seen the core values identified to play a
crucial role in my life. I love telling the truth, and thus I promote honesty. I prefer a person being
honest as it presents information, thus allowing the other party to come up with the best decision.
For instance, if a person is late for a meeting, they should not say they are almost there and have
no venue left their house. Lying will make the other people in the conference have false hope.
8
However, if a person tells the truth, the rest will know what they can do before the late person
arrives.
I am also very optimistic in everything that I do. I acknowledge that we often face
challenges in our endeavors. However, I choose to focus on the positive side of the situation to
ensure that I get the best out of every situation. Moreover, as indicated by my personality, I have
a solid and practical work ethic. I guarantee that I perform the tasks assigned diligently to ensure
that I get the best that I can. Additionally, I foster creativity to solve the challenges that I face in
my work and my life. Identifying my core values was a significant thing. That is because it would
enable me to work on my strengths and ensure that I increase the quality of my life.
Summary and Synthesis
Discovering my raw materials has been an exciting process. I identified my strengths, potential
strengths, weaknesses, personality, interest, desires, and passions, as well as my core values. These
raw materials in my life are connected. My top five strengths identified from the assessments I
engaged in were curiosity, balance, communication, teamwork, and adaptability. The potential
strengths identified from self-assessment and assessments from my friends, colleagues, and family
were self-motivation, strategic thinking, ambition, and vision. The weaknesses classified include
loathing rules and guidelines, being conservative, and salesmanship. The passion that I recognized
is curiosity, as it explains my constant need to learn more and more. The identified interests were
the promotion of effective communication and influence and promotion of time management.
From the assessments, my personality test was ESFJ and conscientiousness. Lastly, my core values
that were identified after self-assessment were optimism, creativity, autonomy, work ethics,
honesty, and meaningful work.
From the assessment, all my raw materials relate to one another. I discovered that my interests,
passion, and desires played an essential role in determining my strengths, potential strengths, and
weaknesses. The passions, desires, and interests encompass what a person likes to do and enjoy
doing them. When a person engages in them for a long time, they can increase their skills and
competency, thus translating them into their strengths. That was evident with my communication
and time management interests. I practiced them for so long that they became part of my strengths
inherently.
Additionally, the things that a person does not like engaging in form their weaknesses most of the
time. That is because they dislike them, they have not timed of practicing such or getting used to
them. For instance, my weakness of loathing rules and guidelines may have come from seeking
autonomy. I like working to achieve the set goals and objectives, and therefore I avoid o not like
being restricted by the rules and guidelines.
The core values of a person are also related to their strengths and weaknesses and their desires,
passions, and interests. That is because the core values explain the person’s behavior and the
actions that they are more likely to engage in. For instance, my core value of work ethics can
9
explain my strength of balance and teamwork. Thus, that indicates that they are related to one
another and influence people's personalities. All the raw materials mentioned in this paper are
essential in determining the character and personality of a person. The personality of a person
incorporates both their positive and negative attributes. For instance, from the big five personality
traits, my personality is conscientiousness. That can be explained by my core value of work ethics
as well as my strengths. Thus, all the raw materials are interconnected. Accordingly, when a person
learns them well, they can market themselves effectively.
