I chose this essay because it talks about one of the most controversial issues in United States. The author has been able to capture sentiments that are shared by a lot of illegal immigrants who plan to achieve their American dreams. Over a long period of time, unites States of America has received increasing number of illegal immigrants. The US congress in 1986 realized the problem and started addressing it by enacting what was then known as immigration reform and control act. The modern day enforcement policies can be largely attributed to the act. In the history of United States of America, the act made possible the hiring of illegal immigrants (Padovani & Bansak, 2020). There have been many reforms in the enforcement department through the years which has attracted both positive and negative comments from various stakeholders. The immigrants free from their country due to war, violence or in search of better opportunities. The United States has been seen as a favorite spot for immigrants due to its strong economy. United States allowed the immigrants to seek asylum with their families. However, the federal government has noted that smugglers are using the law to exploit the system. The federal government initiated changes in the policy in order to discourage smugglers as well as dishonest people from having gaining entry into the country (Hoekstra & Orozco-Aleman, 2017). The issue of immigration needs to be tackled with a lot of care. There are many illegal immigrants who hope to be given a chance to be American citizens.
