Research Assignment Revision Feedback Conference Tasks/Questions

Instructions: Address each of the tasks and/or questions below completely and thoroughly for the instructor feedback discussion assignment.

1. State your thesis statement. This should be a complete sentence.

2. Do you feel your thesis statement is clearly worded and effectively sets up the topic/the content of your assignment? In other words, is the thesis statement aligned with the information you present within the body of the paper? Explain in a couple of sentences (or more) why/how the body content supports your thesis statement.

3. Do you think that the introduction effectively sets up the assignment by getting the reader engaged/interested? Explain.

4. What are the main points of your research assignment? (List them.) In a couple of paragraphs (or more) discuss/explain how you support these main points throughout the assignment. In other words, give a brief summary of what information is included that helps the reader not only clearly understand your main points but also feel confident in the credibility of the information provided.

5. Do you effectively use transitions to connect ideas/information so that the assignment flows well and makes sense to the reader? Give one example below of a sentence you feel is a good transition used within the paper.

6. Did you engage with at least 5 sources? While engaging with those sources through discussion and analysis, did you vary the way you presented the information (summarizing, paraphrasing, quoting)? 7. Do you believe that the sources you used to write the assignment are relevant and credible? Explain.

8. Did you include MLA in-text citations throughout the paper whenever you summarized, paraphrased, or quoted from sources? Give one example below of an in-text citation you included. 9. Do you feel that the conclusion effectively closes the assignment by leaving the reader with a clear understanding of the main focus of the paper? Do you restate the thesis statement so that the conclusion not only makes the main focus of the paper clear but also leaves the reader with a final thought that enables them to take meaning away from what they have read? Explain.

10. Read through your assignment to check for grammar errors. Do you feel that your sentences are well-developed/focused and structured correctly? Do you see any run-on sentences or comma splices? What about sentence fragments? Do you use correct and consistent verb tense? Check for comma usage errors such as omission of commas after introductory phrases or before conjunctions when forming compound sentences. Copy and paste one sentence below from your assignment that you feel is a good example of a well-developed and grammatically correct sentence.

11. Check for minor editing mistakes such as spelling and capitalization errors or typos. Do you see any? What editing issue did you struggle with them most? Below state the grammar or other editing issues that required the most attention/editing.

12. Did you include a works cited page at the end listing the sources used to write the assignment? Are the citations formatted per MLA requirements, and is the page in MLA format (double-spaced throughout, title centered at top, hanging indent used to format citation entries, citations in alphabetical order)?

13. Is the overall formatting of the paper aligned with MLA guidelines/requirements (double-spaced throughout, Times New Roman 12 pt. font, MLA main header on first page top left, last name and page number header at top right of each page beginning on second page, paragraphs indented)?
