ResponSEWK62DP.docx

Respond to your colleagues, critiquing their research question and hypotheses and pointing out factors that may influence the strength of the correlation of the variables. Be sure to provide a rationale for your responses in one or more of the following ways:

Ask a probing question, substantiated with additional background information, evidence, or research.

Share an insight from having read your colleagues’ postings, synthesizing the information to provide new perspectives.

Offer and support an alternative perspective using readings from the classroom or from your own research in the Walden Library.

Validate an idea with your own experience and additional research.

Make a suggestion based on additional evidence drawn from readings or after synthesizing multiple postings.

Expand on your colleagues’ postings by providing additional insights or contrasting perspectives based on readings and evidence.

DISCUSSION

Identify your selected problem in the first line of your posting and post your research question.

The practice problem is glycemic control in adult patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus

The research question is as follows: Do adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus have more control over their glycemic level with a social support system in place in comparison to adult patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus without a social support system?

Post a null hypothesis and alternate hypotheses for your research question and identify the dependent and independent variables that would be associated with the research study.

The null hypothesis would be that the glycemic control between an adult patient with type 2 diabetes mellitus with social support will be equivalent to an adult patient with diabetes type 2 diabetes mellitus without social support.

The alternate hypotheses for this research question would be that glycemic control between an adult patient with type 2 diabetes mellitus with social support will be better managed than an adult patient with diabetes type 2 diabetes mellitus without social support.

The dependent variable would be the glycemic level, and the independent variable would be the support system.

Provide your prediction for the expected relationship (positive or negative) between the variables. Why do you think that sort of relationship will exist? What other factors might affect the outcome?

My prediction is that the glycemic index will be improved with a support system in place. This would be a positive relationship. I have noticed in my own practice that when a patient has a support system in place, they have better control over their illness. I have also noticed that when patients do not have a support system in place, they appear to have a hard time managing and coping with their illness. There was a cross-sectional study that was conducted that concluded that social support is important in the coping process of a patient with diabetes (Ramkisson et al., 2017). It showed that there was a positive correlation between a support system managed and coped better with diabetes. I feel that having a strong support system is key with the management of chronic diseases.
