Running Head: ACADEMIC INTEGRITY 1
ACADEMIC INTEGRITY 2
Read each of the three post below and identify whether or not you agree with the discussion post below based on the rubric below:
· Find a piece of online writing that uses information unethically.
· Identify two key elements of the catalog’s Academic Integrity and Academic Dishonesty sections and describe how you feel these elements are important to you as a scholar and professional.
· Explain how the online writing or graphic you chose uses information unethically. Be sure to refer to the two key elements you identified in the previous step.
· Develop a strategy for how you, as a scholar, could avoid making this same ethical mistake
1. Academic Integrity: 2 Elements (1) Personal Responsibility: means to me taken ownership of my own education, Good and bad and building on it. This is important to me because as a student I want to achieve my educational goals and by taking on the responsibility to do my best work will help me succeed and beyond. The professional part of me use this to take on the responsibility as a teacher and built on my knowledge so i can better serve my students. (2) Academic Voice: means to me using my own thoughts words and writings that can be supported by research. This is important to me because being able to put in to my own words what I know mean I understand and use what is taught to me.
Academic Dishonesty:2 Elements (1) Falsifying Data: means to me giving out the false information for academic reason like for attendance or participation to gain something. As a teacher I could lose my job if any reports are false. (2) Forged or Altered Documents means copying a document and changing certain aspects to make it seem different from the original.
Recently I have looked into getting a waist trainer. After look at a few pictures I was close to ordering the one , then I decided to look at the comments and reviews. This was clearly a false product. It altered documents and Falsified data in order to get consumers to by it products.
I would truthfully put a honest product that works and put a guarantee on each item I sell. I would put out real pictures of the products. I would double check any info I put out to the public.shakaria
2. After reading through the Academic Integrity and Academic Dishonesty, I am choosing Original Thought and Plagiarism. In my opinion, these both go hand in hand with each other, and I would think more often than not are found being broken together.
Having an original thought is something that has always been extremely important to me even at a younger age and partially because I am extremely stubborn in my thoughts as well as other peoples. But I also feel this is very important in both school and professional work. Being able to do your own research on a topic regardless of what it is I think immediately shows the amount of effort that was put into the body of work. What I mean here is say you read an article and it is based on research X, and then you find the original research X and study all of the data that was part of that research. Maybe it is just me, but when I find articles based on any sort of topic and all that is referenced in other articles or a quote from someone, I really become disinterested and feel that very little effort was put in. I am a data-driven kind of person and I have plenty of my own opinions so I don’t really care about someone else’s, I want to know the facts and the data behind what was found so I can base my own opinions on that data, not my opinion from someone else’s opinion. Hopefully, that makes sense.
The next level to not having an original thought and just paraphrasing someone else’s words on even someone else’s research is deliberately copying someone’s work and trying to pass it as work you did and thoughts or research you did on your own. There are plenty of people and even news outlets that rarely come up with any original content let alone an original thought. But copying others work is unacceptable, and I have been a victim of this type of lazy deceitful mindset of trying to use someone else’s work as your own, as I am sure many of you have been as well. And unfortunately, we live in a society where the burden of proof lies on the person plagiarized.
The online example I am using here is a game review that was done by someone on YouTube and then was copied by a ‘journalist’ from a much larger popular gaming Website [IGN.com]. It was pretty interesting to follow when it was happening and the creator of the original content was the one responsible for bringing it to light. As the story progressed and IGN started to look into the article in question which was also a digital version in the form of Video, they not only confirmed that in fact the material had been used/misused without any permission but that this same individual had been doing this as long as he was employed. IGN fired him and although gaming reviews are not usually something you hear about in mainstream news outlets, there was a lot of online news coverage for this.
I do always try and create all original content like anyone else. But I do plan on going forward citing references as good as I can, and this class has helped me greatly in this, you can never be too safe and citing something when maybe you didn’t need to will not hurt — but not citing when you should can have hefty consequences.Adam

The online writing I chose to talk about gets into a single individual uses information unethically by falsely fabricating information that several people found out about and could have easily believed it to be true. It could have been the end of the person’s reputation or the reputation of the company they are tied to over an accusation that was not true. What was said recklessly without truth ended up in the individual that had spread it being cut off from various websites like YouTube, Twitter, and so forth as well earning him a lawsuit because of the false sexual assault report. Alex Jones used his voice and popularity in a way that he should not have and while first-hand proof does not exist anymore, the events he started will follow him. (Hauser, 2017)
A way that I can avoid making a mistake like the one described in the article can be achieved by only seeking out accurate information to use without applying information that cannot be proved or linked to a source. Regularly brushing up on the ways to stay away from incurring repercussions is the strategy I would go with of refreshing my mind on the topic. To avoid plagiarism, what I need to do is keeping notes of the sources I am using so I can keep track of them and go through plagiarism checks through applications like Grammarly and other websites that will check it for you.
