Introduction

According to Glase (2016), creating a well-thought and detailed prospectus and introduction are vital basics of proposing and starting a successful research study. Also, a researcher must consider the study of interest and recognize if it is feasible, definitive, sort approach, and weaknesses that may arise from the research. Thus, the research prospectus must contain background, problem statement, purpose statement, significance, conceptual/theoretical framework, research question, nature of the study, and possible sources of the data (Glase, 2016).

However, it is crucial to state that the prospectus differs significantly depending on the type and content of the dissertation project and the researchers/students involved (Skott, 2021).

According to Higginbotham (2020), research proposals are used to persuade potential supervisors and funders that research work is worthy of their support. However, a research prospectus is an introductory plan for carrying out research. It is not a comprehensive, thorough, technical research proposal but a measured investigation of the problems a researcher is likely to face in such a study (Jerome Library, n.d). Consequently, it is more of a preliminary proposal. Further, Behrendt (n.d) stated that the dissertation prospectus is the formal document a student or researcher presents to his/her Ph.D. Supervisory Committee at the point of preparing to move on to the full-time dissertation project.

Glase (2016) stated that the introductory part of a prospectus must contain the overview of the research problem, which involves the reason for studying the topic, the evidence of the problem, outlining the gaps, and stating the investigation of the study will do. Also, the significance of a research problem is where a researcher states the importance of the study, how it will contribute to the literature, the professional field, and who will benefit from the research's effort. Further, identifying key variables is essential as it states how a researcher intends to measure, what a researcher intends to measure, and how precisely he will measure it (Glase, 2016). Identifying key variables also involves considering the methodology, study design, and procedures.

Further, the methodology involves elucidating how a researcher will answer the central question or test the study's hypothesis, including proving theorems, using econometric modeling, doing archival research, distributing survey questionnaires, and/or conducting interviews in-depth (Skott, 2021). In essence, Glase (2016) stated that critical thinking, writing skills, and having deep knowledge of the study matter in research work.

Depending on the problems stated in the research paper, a researcher must state why and how he intends to answer the questions to contribute to solving the research problem through data or information. Overall, the prospectus must state from the onset why the researcher perceives the research topic as interesting, important, and useful to the field of study.

Opinion

The video helps describe the outlines necessary and standard procedures to take when writing a research paper. The explanation of the video will help to craft a more viable prospectus. For example, the research started with research questions that aim to answer factors causing the digital divide in the healthcare service delivery between the US and Nigeria. On the other hand, the purpose of the study was to identify the causes of the digital divide as they relate to Nigeria. Consequently, after streamlining the topic, the derived research question will answer the research purpose to identify these factors causing the digital divide in University College Hospital, Ibadan, rather than between the US and Nigeria.

RESPONSE 2

Introduction:

This week’s discussion is on the “Prospectus and Dissertation Introduction: Everything You Need to Know” through Moodle at California Miramar University. This will be an in-debt analysis of what your prospectus supposed to look like. And give a summary of everything it entails in each section related to the dissertation that will be forthcoming in the future.

Body:

The Research Prospectus gives eight distinctive points of reference they are: background, problem statement, purpose statement, significance, theoretical/conceptual framework, research questions, nature of the study, and possible sources of data. First, background this a thorough analysis of what you will be studying and how the rest of the dissertation will talk about usually is in the introduction part of your dissertation. Once you give the detailed overview of what you will be talking about then you will start with the problem or problem statement.

The problem statement is what is the issue and what type of known knowledge that is already known about what your paper will discuss. There could be a ton of already similar dissertations published ensure you state that here and what will be different in your dissertation that is not already stated or published. Next which goes along with the problem what is the purpose of your study or purpose statement.

The purpose statement must succinctly explain the objectives of the doctoral or dissertation objectives or the dissertation-in-practice. It must relate back to the problem statement in your project. Once this is finished this goes right into the significance.

Significance is no specific subject however this is how much does your study goes into details and how does all the pieces fit together. This is how significant is your research in your dissertation.

Theoretical/Conceptual Framework how does your framework connect the dots in your project. Both concepts are critical in your dissertation however they are slightly different. The Theoretical Framework is taking a set a theory that is already published and use it directly in your research. Conceptual is taking a set of theories and creating an entire new theory. This is what you want to ensure you do in your research and identify the variables or independent variables. In the dissertation to come using the prescribed distinctive part this is how the paper to come will be broken down. The video summarizes all the parts and making sure you go into great details of your research and not take shortcuts. In addition the video goes into making sure you know what you are talking about not the board and make sure if you pushback have an answer. The reason why we will do it this why is because: things like that with pushback.

Conclusion:

In summary we have talked about the research prospectus. We have given an overview of what the entire video discussed and details of how it will be applied later in the future dissertation to come.
