Recall personal experiences that exemplify working toward clear objectives and being provided with regular, valuable feedback. How would you describe the type of feedback that you received and its influence on you? What type of feedback was not valuable or had a negative effect on your work?  For those of you who have been completing the “Should Do” guided notes, how does the absence of guided notes for this unit impact you?  What are your experiences with using the guided notes?

I remember going through evaluations several times a year. The administrators always started with the positive and expounded on the good. Next, the would talk about things that I needed to improve on. The big take away from those meetings was the help that was extended to me to carry out the new found goal or objective. This type of feedback was encouragement to me and it caused me to want to advance and do better. The communication from the administrator was not viewed as personal. It was look at as being a professional evaluation.

I really have not experienced negative feedback. Once I looked carefully at what was said or written, I understood what was being conveyed. It all boiled down to doing my job and doing what was are is best for children. Children are the main reason we have jobs. We are expected to carry out our job.

The feedback has always made me strive to be better. I made it my business to not have the administrator to have the same conversation at the next evaluation. I worked hard so that during the next meeting I would show much improvement.

I have been used to having them and feel that I need them to help guide me and to keep me focused. I believe it is need because research has said and it has been my experience that it works.

After recalling personal experiences with being provided clear objectives has played an important role in my learning. Also being provided with regular feedback has, also, played an important role in my learning.  The type of feedback that I received was me being the best student and making sure I got what she taught in the classroom. My teacher would provide the lesson and give a thorough overview step by step. Then our teacher would give us what we need study for homework because she would quiz us as a class. For example, in 3rd grade the teacher would have us study multiplications for 3’s, 4’s and 5’s. Then our teacher would teacher would ask us random multiplication question, if we missed the question you missed recess. All feedback that I have gotten from each of my teachers has played a great effect on my work. I cannot say that I have had any negative feedback.

The guided notes give students a map on what students should do which is a great impact. The guided notes, also, are instructor-prepared handouts that provide all students with background information and standard cues with specific spaces to write key facts, concepts, and/or relationships during the lecture. Without guided notes students would be lost and probably would not be on task. With my experiences with using guided notes has been nothing but great.

Today, I will be discussing two experiences that I had with two of my professors when I was in undergrad. One of my professors was my Chemistry professor, and she always explained instructions thoroughly and gave clear directions. I do not recall ever having an issue with completing assignments, however if I did, she would break it down to where I would understand how to complete the assignment. When it pertains to tests, my professor always ensured that she gave us feedback on specific problems. She would work out each problem that we missed and showed us each step thoroughly. Incorporating that feedback helped me understand the material and I was able to pass her class with an A because of how dedicated she was to helping us. I believe her feedback enhanced my skills in Chemistry and it taught me to work harder when you do not understand a problem. The second professor was not as thorough or clear when it pertained to her instructions, feedback, or assignments. Whenever I asked her a question, she would not thoroughly explain or give feedback. This caused me to struggle in her class throughout the semester.  Having these personal experiences with both professors gave me insight on ways to handle a classroom and ways not to handle a classroom setting. Not only did my Chemistry professor mold me into the teacher that I am today, she taught me many valuable lessons that I use until this day. With that being said, as an educator, I ensure to be clear and provide a lot of feedback for my students regardless if they are in person or virtually attending my class. Guided notes are very important for each lesson. Students need a guide to follow as they are working through the lectures. Guided notes are meant to be utilized to keep students engaged in the lesson. Not only does this keep them engaged, it helps them follow every important part of the lesson so they will not fall behind. If there were not any guided notes, then a lot of students would be confused during the lesson and not engaged. My experiences with utilizing guided notes is that my students have learned how to create their own notes from them. What I mean by this is that it helps with writing their own notes and it keeps them engaged.
