QUESTIONS:

1. Reflect on your learning in this course. Include a discussion of specific DNP Essentials you have met through the course activities.

2. Write out each course objective and discuss in what ways you achieved these objectives.

3. How will you apply what you have learned to your present and future practice? Give three specific examples using scholarly reference.

One post is written in response to fellow learners’ post and each between 100-150 words. Responses are substantive insightful and contain at least one reference.

Reflection on EBD course:

On reflection on my learning in this course, Evidence-Based Practice, I realize that I am a clinician and an educator, not a researcher, even though I am very interested in getting research into practice. I believe the same is true of everyone in this DNP cohort program. With an advanced degree, we are nurse leaders who will become role models as DNPs, who mentor clinicians and form the basis for high-level coaching. Further, we will help integrate evidence-based practice into daily routines by building team leadership.

Specific DNP Essentials you have met through the course activities.

Essential VII: Clinical Prevention Health for Improving the Nation's Health

The class projects, especially by the group activity of Article Selection Related to PICOT Question/Article Selection Related Public Health Issue, contributed to the achievement of this DNP Essential. By brainstorming and bouncing back ideas from all group members, either via Zoom or text messages, collaboration was reached, leading to a Deliverable production.

When working in teams, it is essential to realize each member's role; it is equally vital to recognize those of other professionals and establish an alignment between their roles and peers. After all, effective coordination and collaboration cannot be achieved without defining each person's specific roles and responsibilities. The complex nature of delivery systems and unpredictable economic factors have prompted the need to use shared expertise and patient-oriented abilities (OʼRourke et al., 2018).

Course Objectives

1. Evaluate evidence-based approaches to the delivery of leadership services in nursing in applicable practice settings. This objective was achieved by our group project on Group Assignment (Week 2) by utilizing collaboration in the nursing strategy.

2. Use analytic methods to critically appraise evidence, including literature, to determine and implement evidence-based practice. This objective was achieved by our group project on Group Assignment ( Week 2) by the deliverable of Central line-associated bloodstream infection (CLABSI) based on evidence-based practice applicable to the ICU scenario.

3. Explore methodologies to improve student and/or patient outcomes through the dissemination of evidence-based practice. This objective was achieved by Group Immersion Assignment Option 1: evaluation of Practice Approaches by finding evidence to support (a) causes and practices contributing to the development of the HAI; (b) potential solutions to preventing or minimizing the HAI; (c) plan for dissemination of information to healthcare staff, patients, families, or whoever is involved or is a stakeholder.

4. Demonstrate the conceptual ability and skill to extract applicable information from databases to evaluate information as it pertains to practice. This objective was achieved by Group Immersion Assignment Option 1.

5. Appraise evidence and apply it to policy development in the nursing leadership arena by our assignment of The Role of the DNP in EBP paper and the Evidence-Practice video.

6. Employ communication skills and the spirit of inquiry, nursing judgment, professional identity, and collaborative skills in developing practice models. This objective was achieved by evaluating a therapeutic intervention noted within the organizational setting by writing The Role of the DNP in EBP.

7. Demonstrate nursing judgment in designing, delivering, and evaluating evidence-based care to improve client and/or patient outcomes in the nursing leadership arena by Appraising Evidence for Applicability to Practice by the PICOT question: Does the use of mammography reduce mortality in females diagnosed with breast cancer?

8. Evaluate evidence-based approaches to information technology in nursing leadership within applicable nursing practice settings by developing a PPT to disseminate the best evidence using a social media platform- YouTube.

How will you apply what you have learned to your present and future practice? Give three specific examples using scholarly references.

I intend to utilize EBD to better patient outcomes by implementing an STI standard protocol at my workplace and therefore transform my new knowledge into clinically useful forms, effectively implement it across the entire care team and be able to measure in terms of meaningful impact on performances and health care outcomes (Stevens, 2013).

Application of EBD methodology can be applied to healthcare in many ways. My current workplace is a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) in the outskirts of Miami. This clinical setting presents a challenge for EBD implementation given its resource-constrained environment and the high-risk population it serves.

The three specific examples of how EBD can be applied to my current FQHC practice are:

1. Educating patients and developing a plan on self-management for hypertension. There is growing evidence that when patients are directed involved in the decision making for their care, there is a better rate of success (Price et al., 2020)

2. Implementation of Sexually Transmitted Infections Self-collection samples for people who use drugs, the LGBTQ and Transgender populations, the homeless and those experiencing housing instability, the recently incarcerated, and sex workers to decrease disparities secondary to stigma and discrimination to those who belong to communities that have suffered many barriers to healthcare (INC, 2020). With this implementation, STI prevention, early detection, and treatment are increase.

3. Implementing quality improvement skill development, tracking, and team self-evaluation on obesity. Minority, low-income women, are particularly vulnerable. It is widely acknowledged that these women are especially at risk of becoming overweight or obese because of work commitments, family demands, and limited resources for physical activity.
