Operating system OS is a vital and important piece of software for any hardware system to be managed. OS is used to manage and operate the hardware of a device. These are of many types, which are designed uniquely depending on the hardware they are managed. In general, the Operating system controls processor, memory, and storage. In the current decade, most of the devices come with a pre-installed operating system that allows users to operate and interact through a GUI (graphic user interface).
Operating systems are used on different kinds of devices like Smartwatches, Smart TVs, mobile phones, computers/laptops, navigation systems are few. These devices are preloaded with OS to manage its hardware and perform user required operations in an elegant and swift way.
In the past few years, the software industry had developed drastically, which also gave us a plethora of Operating systems. These OS are different kinds of operating systems developed by hardware manufacturing companies, a software company, and open-source software. Based on the device it is installed, we have linen, windows, mac major operating systems for Laptops. similarly wear OS, Tizen OS and android wear for smartwatches. Android Auto, Apple car play, Tizen car play for car information systems. Android TV, Tizen, and web OS are few names for smart TVs.
As per Strategy Analytics (2019), Samsung is leading the smart TV industry by 67% share as per 2018 market sales of 157 million units, this not only leaves summing leading but also puts Tizen OS as a leading Operating system in the smart TV industry.
As per Giancarlo & Vladimir (2018), Tizen is the most reliable software compared to other software. Tizen is built by the open-source project from Linux as an alternative to other mobile operating systems like Android, IOS, BlackBerry, and windows. Samsung merged its BADA OS with Tizen to create an OS for its smart devices like a watch, phones, and smart TVs. Currently, Tizen OS has taken over all Samsung smart TV and Smartwatches. (Crookes, 2014)
Android TV and Wear OS, even though both have a significant share in the marketplace, both are controlled by the technical software industry giant Google. So, Hardware manufacturers have limited control over the services and sales through play store and software updates. In comparison, Tizen vs Android TV. Tizen is property to Samsung whereas Android is used on several other smart TVs. Tizen uses Bixby engineering’s, whereas Android uses google voice assistance. Tizen user SmartThings for casting phone to TV whereas google users Chromecast. At current, Tizen is leading a smart TV market with 21% share in comparison with Android TV 10% market share.
