1) In this review the journal selected was “The Computing Surveys (CSUR)” which is a part of the American Computing Machines (ACM) library. This journal was selected because it contained multidisciplinary topics and comprehensive material relating to computer science. This provides alignment to the needs of the research concentration Big Data Analytics. The nature of Big Data Analytics is broad and incorporates many computer science disciplines meaning this journal has excellent alignment in a need to content relation.

Subject Matter and Selection

The journal covers surveys and tutorials relating to computer research that typically consist of original works not published in other mediums or sources.  In summary of selection requirements, The Computing Surveys (CSUR) - Author Guidelines (n.d.) provides the following:

Candidate papers content requires that they be tutorials or surveys, typically not exceed 35 pages in length and submissions be in electronic format of LaTex or MS Word. The article formatting must include, descriptive title, authors name and affiliation, abstract, content indicators, and citations to relevant literature that conform to the ACM citation template. Articles of the appropriate content and formatting are submitted to an associate editor who selects referees to review the paper. After the refereeing process the associate editor either rejects or accepts the paper, if accepted the associate editor makes recommendations to the Editor-in-Chief who makes the final decision of acceptance.

Guidelines for reviewing referees establish that the paper achieve high ratings in technical quality, relevance to significant areas of research or practice, level of general interests, and that the papers presentation is effective (Computing Surveys (CSUR) - Information and guidelines for reviewers , n.d.).

Audience, Publishers, and Article Types

To summarize the audience and article types, the audience are professionals wishing to develop an understanding and perspective of subjects of computer science outside of their own specialties and the article types are educational, informative, and comprehensive (Computing Surveys (CSUR) - Home. n.d.). The publishers found in many of the articles may range in technical backgrounds and origins but are often associated with academic affiliations. The intended audience and article types can be viewed as being broad in nature with article topics relating to computer science.

Understandings Gained from Journal Review

After looking at other journals within the ACM online library and reviewing this journal with the selected criteria two primary observations are made, one that many of the journals require a review process and two they are oriented towards a selected reader base. Journals also allow for a form of information dissemination based upon a concentration and allow readers the ability to stay abreast of current research. The process of selection in journals poses necessary limitations on the number of submissions accepted which can be both beneficial and possible restrictive to the reader. Given the sheer volume of research such selection is beneficial by economizing the readers time by providing a centralized source and assurance of material that is relevant, of quality, and of credibility. A potential drawback is that relevant research may not be published and missed by a researcher thus it becomes necessary for researcher to seek out multiple journals to mitigate this possibility.

2) Vested interest in information technology

An innumerable amount of reports assesses the cost of information technology (IT) by concentrating on how much monetary worth is added in comparison to the instrument that propel the additional value. We debate that price from IT evolves precisely by way of variations in the component contribution assembly but also circumlocutorily through IT-facilitated enhancement of non-IT efforts and deviations in the essential assembly mechanization. Using corporate balanced information from the assembling division, we locate proof that affects IT directly and indirectly. When IT in organizations are Subdivided into intensive and non-intensive segments, the conclusion is that the indirect consequences of IT get the upper hand. These outcomes demonstrate underlying distinctions in the function of IT in manufacturing among corporations that are more advanced versus the companies that are not so advanced. The conclusion for decision makers is that for IT-comprehensive corporations, the achievements from IT derives essentially through the medium of incidental causes such as the boost of hard work and assets acquired outside of IT.

IT habitually and inextricably functions with company planning, procedures, and motivation schemes. IT is extensive and inserted in most areas of the an organization. This allow it to be very challenging to locate and determine its impact. For example, IT allowed synchronization and ambiguity minimization. It alleviates the projection fallout in a logistic network; however, it is complicated to determine the impact of how much IT contributes to individual organizations. The challenge is slightly because of the complexity in observing, calculating, and precisely aligning the proceeds of IT, and partially because of the intercommunication of IT with other equipment within an institution.

There are several illustrations of how IT improves financial assets which are not worker or IT connected. Manufactory and equipment consumption expands because of the material utilization, requirement and enterprise resource planning systems as IT smoothly incorporates company processes. Microcomputer support configuration and assembling combined with computer digitally command mechanisms, transforms the manufacturing development and advanced the consumption of non-IT resources. IT- encouraged timetable cuts down the time commercial airlines remain on the ground and makes the most of gate consumption at airports; furthermore, IT expands the convenience of both airline and gate consumption in the same way in which it is used for IT- operated timetable of vehicle fleets.

What is covered under the subject

The subject matter covered in this journal is, how studies calculate the market price of information technology; however, the attention is directed mostly on the added value to certain degree and not the components. structural differences in the role of IT in production between industries that are IT-intensive and those that are not (Mittal & Nault, 2009).

Audience and Publisher

The audience are students and professionals who are looking to develop an understanding of this material to support their research and to seeking information on investments and its effects in information technology.

The publisher`s name is Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences. The publisher address is 901 Elkridge Landing Road, Suite 400, Linthicum, MD, 21090, United States. Website-http://isr.pubs.informs.org

Articles and Selection Criteria

The types of articles that are included in these publications are mostly scholarly journals, some trade journals and magazines. There were 25 volumes published between 1993 and 2014. The subjects featured: Computers-Information Science and Information Theory. The source is peer reviewed. It has gone through the scrutiny of a review board of associates in the authors orbit who assessed these resources as part of the body of research for a distinct authority and make suggestions with reference to its publishing in a journal. They could also reject this publication.

My Observation about Scholarly Journal

The information I received from going through this article several times was important; however, I have learned that I must do further researching to grasp more information on my subject matter. Even though the article was useful, I believe that there is much more material on this topic out there. One other observation was that the authors provided information on this topic between 1993 and 2014 and we are now in 2017. This three years gap is very wide because things are changing at a fast pace in information technology (IT) every day and three years gap is too wide. Current information which are required is missing.
