Assignment Directions

Important Directions:

· The first research study for this assignment, “A pilot study measuring the impact of yoga on the trait of mindfulness” can be found in Moodle under the assignment guide and assignment submission link.

· Locate another article to analyze using the university databases. The article you use for your second analysis should be a RESEARCH study meaning the author’s ask a research question than answer the question by collecting data.

· Do NOT analyze a news review, an opinion piece, a book report or a review of the literature

*All together you will be analyzing TWO articles using the questions on the second page of the assignment guide

· Deadline: Submit your paper on Moodle by 11:50pm Friday 4/27

· Late assignments will be accepted UP TO 11:50pm Friday 5/4 for a 12% late penalty

· Use this APA format: APA format (opens in new window) at < https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/560/01/ >.

· Your submitted assignments should include an APA formatted Title Page with your name and article title AND a Reference page. Do not cite any article in your paper that is not listed on your Reference page. You may say something like, “Flynn (2015) mentions previous research by Jones that found….”

· Use 12-point font, Times New Roman, 1” margins, & double-space

· Each analysis should be a MINIMUM of 300 words

· See the rubric below and PROOF your work --- or have someone else proof it.

· DO NOT PLAGIARIZE ANY WORDS from the article or you will get a zero and face disciplinary action from the Office of Academic Affairs. Plagiarism includes just replacing a noun or verb here or there within the sentence. Use quotations if necessary but limit their use to once or twice for a few words only. Quotations should be rare – no more than one or two brief quotes per paper (and must be properly cited with source and page #).

1. Describe the question the investigator is trying to answer.

2. Describe the method the investigator used to answer the question he was investigating.

3. Explain why the method used in this investigation is important.

a. What are some potential weaknesses in this methodology?

b. If you were the researcher, how would you improve upon the study?

4. Explain what the investigator found.

5. Explain why the results are important.

a. What are the individual and/or societal implications of the findings? Should people change their habits or behaviors as a result of these findings?

b. What do you think of the researcher’s recommendations? Do you have additional recommendations?

Rubric grade:

Research Analysis Rubric = 24 possible points

APA Formatting Rubric = 20 possible points

Paper On Time = 6 points

Total = 50 * 2 = 100 possible points
