Presentation Write-up (10%)

Please write and submit a research overview based on your research question and the academic research you have chosen to investigate your topic that is a minimum two pages, formatted to MLA requirements (/1 including Works Cited). Due in class the day of your presentation. Please use all headings and sub-headings when you format and then submit your proposal. Your presentation does not need to follow this format. Grammar/editing/sentence errors lower mark.

Your Title /1

The Introduction

Topic Area /1

A good title will clue the reader into the topic but it cannot tell the whole story. Follow the title with a strong introduction tailored to suit your audience. Consider what you know about them and what you need to tell them. It might be short, but with luck it will hook the audience's interest. Remember, you now know more about your topic than everybody else (most likely).

What is your presentation about? Setting the topic area is a start but you need more, and quickly. Get specific about what your research will address.

Question /2

Once the topic is established, come right to the point. What are you doing? What specific issue or question will your work address? State your research question that is the purpose of your whole investigation. Very briefly (this is still the introduction) say how you will approach the work. What will we learn from your work?

Significance /2

Why is this work important? Show why it is important to answer your research question. What are the implications of doing it? Why is it important to our understanding of the world? It should establish why your audience would want to pay attention.

Results /3

This section should argue what you got out of the research. It should join the topic summary to the research and questions that you have raised. It will be a good place to summarize the significance of the work. You should have minimum 3 strong, clear points to support your question that tell us why your topic is important.

Works Cited /1

This is the list of the works used: all of them. Use MLA format throughout paper. Order the references alphabetically. (adapted from Matthew McGranaghan at Hawaii)
