How do the dynamics of gender, race, and privilege diversity under globalization?
Globalization has caused a range of socio-economic transformations over the past few decades, promoted by the global flow of goods and services, information, and technology. Globalization has improved incentive for action towards elevated gender equality. The need for countries to be able to compete equally especially in female-intensive goods and services has promoted the need to enhance gender equality in various nations. Global pressure has also pushed most nations to ratify treaties against gender discrimination. The growing international media coverage such as CNN or the internet has led to the exposure of various incidences of gender biases causing pressure upon multinationals to ensure there are fairer wages and good working conditions for women. (Deborah A. Thomas, 2013)Globalization has enhanced access to information changing the perception of people about social roles, diversity, and inclusivity through the promotion of egalitarian attitudes. Gender roles of women have been changed through the economic empowerment of women worldwide allowing women to shift relative power within households.
Globalization has also created new forms of racialization but also generated novel, transnational forms of resistance to racism. The development of United Nations organizations such as the UNESCO has pushed the fight against racism. It is also important to note how the existence of media and the internet has fueled the current “Black Lives Matter” slogan that seeks to put at bay racial injustice in various countries. (yourmatter, 2020)People moving to different parts of the world and interacting with one another has led to the realization that humans have equal potentials hence eliminating the whole idea of racial prejudice and privileges. Globalization exposes the whole wide world of opportunities, hence people are attracted to the centers of privileges thus eliminating diversity of privileges. The flow of goods and services from the country to the country allows the delimitation of privileges. (Deborah A. Thomas, 2013)
