Research Paper

You will write a research paper that helps you:

· Relearning/Unlearning African American culture.

· Uses research (qualitative) to explore a cultural aspect of African American expression.

· Explores and analyzes cultural artifact through theories based on historical ideas.

Think about these following reflections as you write your paper:

How is "blackness” manifested in society? What responses to stereotypes, norms, and ideologies are commonly found among black populations? What is the function of music, dance, comedy, art, religion or any other artifact in regard to black communities? What connections can you make between music and entertainment to language, literature, media representation, discrimination, and visual expressions or anything else in the black community?

Pay attention to your central focus and interview! Remember that you want to make sure you are using your interviewee as a form of research. You should also mark what changed in how you think about what you have learned. Be mindful of introducing your interviewee (name, description, relationship to you), and pull from class materials. I do recommend you do outside research, but this is not mandatory.

Structure:

· APA or MLA

· Clear Thesis

· Works Cited with 3 sources (one should be your interview).

· Ideas from class

· Subjectivity (”I” language)

Tasks

Write a Research Paper that:

. Uses the narrative of your interview to speak to the significance of your topic.

. Contains at least two academic citation (+ interview) that lends support to your ideas.

. Identifies and summarizes key terms, ideas, or information we learned this quarter.

Your research paper needs to be (at minimum) 3 pages long. Aim for 5 pages.  Please follow and adhere to MLA or APA standards and include a works cited page.
