Research paper
Research Paper
Summary:
The goal of this research paper is to give you a practical exercise for studying technology innovation for a specific use case. When you are done, you will have a tangible guide that you can apply on future technology innovation research and study.
For this assignment, you will select one topic from the list of approved topics below. You will research that topic and discuss your findings in this paper. Some of the content in your paper will be supposition and speculation. This is perfectly acceptable and expected, since you are theorizing the impact of a technological innovation and speculating on what it might bring to industry, science, and society. However, be concise in your thoughts and do not diverge into discussions of conspiracy theories, as these do not support the goal of this exercise.
Your research should follow technology innovation concepts, as discussed in the course textbook, and be aligned with the approved research topics. The textbook is split into three parts and each part discusses an aspect of technology innovation.
· Part 1: Industry Dynamics of Technology Innovation (Chapters 2-5).
· Part 2: Formulating Technology Innovation Strategy (Chapters 6-9).
· Part 3: Implementing Technology Innovation Strategy.
As you structure the content of the paper, please use the textbook’s concepts as your guide for formulating your thoughts and content. Review your work from this course (e.g., discussion boards, quizzes, and writing assignments) to determine which concepts will be most relevant and helpful.
You are not required to cover every concept listed in each chapter. However, use good judgment to pull out concepts from specific chapters that will assist you as you formulate your analysis. Below is an example of how to align the text concepts with your research. If you have questions, concerns, or frustrations about this research paper, please post them in the Course Research Paper discussion forum. You may also email your professor for clarity on the expectations of the assignment.
Example: I've selected Uber Flight as my research topic. My first step is to begin gathering information from online sources about Uber Flight. I know that I'm supposed to discuss Uber Flight, but rather than focusing on Uber the company, I should examine the technology innovation that Uber Flight brings. I might also gather some information from the FAA on general flight regulations over densely populated areas. As I study, I will use Chapter 3 to help me map this new technology innovation to a type of innovation and discuss Uber Flight in that context. With the data I gathered from the FAA, I will discuss regulatory concerns, as referenced in Chapter 4 - Standards Battles, to help me formulate my thoughts on regulatory concerns and the implication of Uber Flight. Without a doubt, Uber Flight will bring other innovations and copy-cat technologies. As discussed in Chapter 9, I will include some content around the protection of intellectual property rights for Uber Flight. As I work through my paper, I'll fill in the Expected Outline content following the same methodology - pulling out concepts that support my research efforts. As I look at the outline of the paper, I can see how to map the text concepts to the expected outline and, based on the number of sections in the paper, I'll have about two pages per section.
Approved Topics:
Each of the topics below can be researched online, and there are several available resources.
· Uber Flight
· DNA Based Universal Identity
· NLP Profiling
· Digital Currency vs. Cash
· Nanobot Surgery
· Quantum Computing to Predict Human Behavior
Instructions:
Your paper must be organized according to the Expected Outline below. Do not add or detract from the outline provided. There is no need to provide an outline in the paper if the sections are clearly indicated (i.e., Bolded Paragraph Headers). The paper should not exceed 10 pages (excluding References and Appendix). The content must be single-spaced, using an Arial 12-point font. Bulleted lists may not exceed five bullets, and there should be no more than one bullet list per page.
Sources:
When you cite sources in the body of the paper, add a superscript number at the end of the paragraph or sentence that corresponds with the associated listing on the References. You must follow this method for citing your research. You may use APA format for your References, but your correct use of APA (versus another format) will not be factored into your final grade.
It is important that you understand that your content will be checked for plagiarism, as defined in the policies of the course. The tool Safe Assign will be used to determine if online content, as well as other students’ work, was copied into your paper. If it is determined that plagiarism has occurred, you will receive a zero for the paper.
Appendix:
The appendix should be used for images, charts, tables, graphs, or other content. Simply add a Figure reference or label (e.g., Figure 1, Figure 2, etc.) in the body of the paper when you would like to reference that image. Place the corresponding Figure reference or label with the image, chart, etc., in the appendix. Do not place images, graphs, tables, or charts in the body of the paper. There will be a 5 point deduction for each occurrence found in the body of the paper.
Submission:
The paper must be saved in a Microsoft Word file (.doc or .docx) and uploaded to the assignment by using the Attach Files feature. DO NOT email your paper to the instructor.
