Research Assignment #2--Changing Family

· Points 30

The purpose of this Assignment is to help students think about today's changing family. The family is the primary socializing environment during childhood. The American Psychological Association (APA) stated in 2005 that "not a single study has found children of lesbian or gay parents to be disadvantaged in any significant respect relative to children of heterosexual parents". Despite this statement, the issue of homosexual couples raising children has continued to be a controversial topic in the U.S. for many years now.

To successfully complete this assignment you must:

· Find a primary research article that supports the view of your textbook (research MUST be within 5-10 years and cannot be a dissertation)

· Use your textbook

· Cite the textbook and your article and provide APA style references.

Answer the following questions:

1. Discuss the relevant findings of research presented in your textbook (p. 193-194 7th ed)  AND  the article you chose addressing the outcomes of children raised by loving gay or lesbian couple. Make sure you are focusing on the research outcomes, not opinion.  Cite the textbook and article in APA style in your answer .

2. What aspect of your background impacts how you view these research findings and affect whether you accept or reject the findings. Do not just say you disagree but address the reasons (Culture, Ethnicity, Religion)
