Recommendations
When doing research for a company, the goal is usually to formulate recommendations for solving a practical problem.
What determines a good recommendation?
Workshop
Look at the research reports handed out
Look at the list of recommendations
Which recommendations are good or bad?
Which recommendations are relevant or irrelevant?
Recommendations wrap-up
Good recommendations are:
Based on the research
Clear and transparent
Concretely Usable
Research Assignment
The research you have been working on so far needs to be written in a proper research report.
See the following slides for the contents of this research report.
Research report
The research report needs to contain these elements:
Introduction
Methodology
Analysis and Results
Conclusion
Reflection
Reference list
Appendix
Parts 1 to 5 should be a maximum of 6 pages.
Research report: introduction
The introduction needs to describe clearly what the topic is you want to investigate. You therefore need
A description of the context of the topic.
An explanation of why it is relevant to you.
A clear (and short) statement of the topic + research questions.
Methodology
In the methodology section you need to describe which websites or databases you took your information from.
You also need to discuss the CARS framework. Describe how you fulfilled each criteria!
For example: you only took sources from authors that have experience in your field (credibility), or you only used sources that were not more than 5 years old (accuracy).
Analysis and Results
Compare the sources you found to see what they agree or disagree on
Think about the compare/contrast table you used in LW4
Draw your conclusions about the patterns in the sources
Make sure to use in-text APA references!
Conclusion
The conclusion needs to contain:
A short summary of the most important findings
A clear answer to the research questions
Reflection
The reflection should contain two elements:
What are the shortcomings of your research? Think: if you had unlimited amount of time and money, what would you do differently?
How did the research process go? For example: Did you find it difficult to find good sources? Also describe here what possible cognitive biases might have influenced your research.
Reference list
The reference list needs to contains all of the sources you mentioned in the text.
They need to be in APA style and in alphabetical order
Appendix
The appendix is for everything you don’t need in the main report.
In this case, it is the bibliography you made in LW2.
Assignment
Before next class starts you need to have finished almost the entire report.
This means: introduction, methodology, analysis and results, and conclusion
Next class you will get the chance to give each other feedback based on the assessment form
