Guided Research Assignment 1:

The purpose of the guided research assignments is to help students prepare and organize their work for the final research project which is worth 30 possible points.

Each of the guided research assignments will help students organize and prepare as they move through the semester rather than be left with a major project and having to build from scratch near the end of the semester.

Choice of topic:

The topic must be related to the psychology of stress which is quite vast and multidisciplinary. The reason it is left up to the student to decide is that students will enjoy pursuing research on a topic that is of interest.

Examples: Physiology of stress, stress coping strategies, post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), psychology of addiction, addiction treatment, depression and bipolar disorder, anxiety disorder, group dynamics and stress, personality types and stress, psychology of stress, genetics and stress, predisposition for pathology related to stress, yoga, exercise and meditation, immune system and stress, hormones and stress, blood type and related disease,  workplace and stress, etc.

Important note about repurposed work. You cannot use a paper you submitted for another course. However, any research you conducted that relates to the topic can be used.

We will be using turnitin for all written assignments. Your similarity score cannot exceed 25%.

Assignment requirements:

Write a short response about 1-3 paragraphs on what you would like to research for the final research project.

Please include 2 citations in APA at the end of your response (in alphabetical order in APA). Citations can include our textbook, academic journal articles, government websites, university/academic websites. No non-government nor non-academic websites.

Guided Research Assignment 4

(Annotated Bibliography of at least 5 academic only sources with brief notes in APA).

Why? What is the purpose of an annotated bibliography and why should I save mine long after the course is finished?

An annotated bibliography is an organized way to conduct research. It also helps you remember the information you have read and collected. As you conduct research, you will be exposed to a large amount of material, which may be hard to remember or you may confuse authors. This will be of great service to you as you build your research project. Moreover, once you have conducted research and document it in an annotated bibliography, it is yours! You can draw from it as needed, in related courses, rather than starting at zero.

Your annotated bibliography should list at least 5 academic sources in alphabetical order (by primary authors last name) in APA.

Example:

Appleton, R. (2010). Handbook of employment opportunity. Pearson

This book examines the importance of being prepared and goes on to say...(add more details).

Stoneman, R. (2008). Alexander the Great: A life in legend. Yale University Press.

This book chronicles the life of Alexander the Great. It provides important information on key battles and military    strategies that helped the Macedonian army defeat...(add more details).

Final Research Project

Start Assignment

· Due Oct 6 by 11:59pm

Please submit your final research project.

Final research project consists of two (2) parts:

Part 1: Your research paper. Paper should be 6-8 pages, double-spaced, in APA, in M.S. Word, or PDF.

Part 2: PowerPoint presentation of your research. Your slide show must be original (one you created) and should reflect your research paper and summarize your findings. You are not obligated to use pictures or graphs but this would certainly make for a more enjoyable and informative presentation (put yourself in the position of the audience at a conference). Amount of slides should be around 5-10 (you can exceed). You can use Prezi but you must provide the link. Google docs is not acceptable because there are problems associated with opening the file.

Make sure your similarity score does not exceed 25%. If it does, revise and resubmit.
