The 10 Strategic Points in ‘Thoughts on incivility: Student and Faculty Perceptions of Uncivil Behavior in Nursing Education Comment by Cristie McClendon: Omobolanle, I have provided comments based on the study itself and the extra requirements or items we will expect to include in the 10 key points and prospectus for your specific study here at GCU. ‘Thinking of incivility: Learner and faculty ideas of uncivil conduct in nursing (Clark & Springer 2007)

Literature Review

Literature review gives out an analysis on how the nursing students have a bad conduct on faculty. This study goes inline with one conducted by (Clark &Springer, 2007). Comment by Cristie McClendon: We have a societal crisis in the US: uncivil behaviors.Academic incivility is on the rise.Causes of incivility are discussed and have been researched.Faculty and students deserve a safe and respectful classroom climate.Discussion narrows down to uncivil behavior in nursing programs.Thomas’s study on nursing students’ perceptions of incivility is discussed.Lashley and Meneses’s study is discussed. The National League for Nursing Education Summit 2005-incivility in nursing.Discussion then moves to the purpose of this specific study.

According the study it shows that resolving any form of trouble among nursing students is not a hard task as perceived to be and it has been normalcy to have some students who complete their course without any case.

without incidences.

An idea is given out as an argument by Kolanko et al, (2016) that the act of being dishonest in learning as well as rudeness, bullying and assaults are among the main challenges in nursing training programs that affects training of nurses. All this behavior is due to factors such as their background environment, and economic status that greatly affects students attitude. It is possible to control students acts of rudeness if only the involved members are willing to offer their time to solve. Comment by Cristie McClendon: Do we have any recent articles here? Just a point to know, that the studies for the problem or background have to be dated in the last 3-5 years. The goal is to discuss how the current research is trending.

Problem Statement

There is no precise way in which incivility among students in nursing program can be brought to complete stop in the university. Comment by Cristie McClendon: This is not in GCU format. It is not known…..

Research Questions

Questions in research are

· “In nursing program what would be causing incivility?”

· “In the entire program how do the stakeholders take part in incivility?”

· “What would the possible solutions for these challenges?”

In the research conducted the questions are essential in establishing the main problem that the research is looking into and help in having possible solutions as well as the efforts of involved groups in bringing the matter to an end based on the nursing program issues (Clark & Springer , 2007).

Sample

According to the institution statistic there are 503 members including students and faculty whereby 41% of the faculty and 36% of the students gave a feedback. This shows that there is inclusion in representation. Observation from the entire institutions is generalized confirming that the study is diversified not only in one state. Comment by Cristie McClendon: Ok, here we should see a theory that was used to undergird this study. There was no specific theory used in this study. What one would you use if you were conducting the study? I might look at other studies on the topic (see their reference list) or look at Bandura’s social learning theory.

Describe Phenomena (Qualitative)

The main experience being investigated is the conduct involving faculty and learners in learning rooms and outside the lecture rooms(Clark & Springer, 2007). It denotes that in both environments’ coordination lacks which is then seen through involved stake.

Methodology and Design

This study was conducted using a study design that would look at student’s incivility therefore descriptive research approach was used. Comment by Cristie McClendon: Qualitative methodology with a descriptive or interpretive design.

Purpose Statement

The study that uses descriptive research approach targets to establish the reason behind having incivility behavior that causes the institution to have unsuccessful students. Comment by Cristie McClendon: Not in GCU format. The purpose of this qualitative, interpretive study is to explore how faculty and students describe…

Data Collection Instruments and Approach

Conducting surveys in the institutions in which questionnaires were used to facilitate proper data collection. Questions that target to capture more information beyond expectation are employees in the research to facilitate a wide range of background data that is collected for the research study. Comment by Cristie McClendon: Think about: how will you get informed consent? How will you recruit? What sampling procedure will you use? How will you protect anonymity and confidentiality. Just a pointer: GCU requires 2 sources of data for a descriptive, interpretive study, so what other source would we use? Interviews.

Data Analysis Approach

All behaviors that can be categorized as destructive in both environments in classrooms and outside lecture rooms are classified as in vicinity behaviors that faculty would want to eliminate. It looks deeper into institutions way in which their rude behaviors can be eliminated by having precise reasons why they occur in nursing program. Behaviors that are considered as disruptive by the students ruins the entire class concentration leading to an environment that is not suitable for study. Comment by Cristie McClendon: This is off target. We looked for commonalities… Go back and see how they also analyzed the numeric part of the survey.
