Read all of the essays assigned for Thursday and available in Canvas, Week 14 Module (Rebecca Solnit's “Men Explain Lolita to Me," Alexandra Socarides's “The Poems (We Think) We Know: Emily Dickinson,” and David Orr's “The Most Misread Poem in America”). As you read, keep in mind Christy Wampole's praise of essays (Links to an external site.)链接到外部网站。 as "attempts" -- characterized by an "experimental nature," a "tendency away from certitude," and "open-endedness" -- rather than as efforts to solve or resolve a problem.
For this post, choose one essay from our reading for Thursday, and:
(1) Consider the extent to which the writer shares Wampole's understanding of essays as "attempts" (use evidence from the essay itself to support your assessment);
(2) Make a comprehensive list of the ideas or topics that the writer cares about in this essay; and
(3) List five things (ideas, topics, phenomena, events, etc.) that you personally care about or find interesting (these can range from the small to the large, from house plants to the Supreme Court).
