Subject: Situational Leadership Theories

Greetings all,

After careful research and experience analysis, I found that Situational Leadership Theory is most effective in the Hospitality industry,  The situational theory of leadership does not relate to a certain type of leader of claim that any one style is best. Instead, Situational Theory explains that the best kind of leader is one is able adapt to his her own situation. In the Hospitality industry, everyday is different, Our industry is certainly one of a kind. We come in contact with guests from all walks of life, so its imperative that staff can lead, set example, cultured, professional and able to adapt to different to change quickly.

Situational Leadership empowers our staff, allowing them to make the best and ethical decision not only for the company, but for themselves and for the safety of our guests here at the hotel. Situational Leadership is the most practical on-the-job tool. The application from the course to the real work environment can begin immediately.– Lead Organizational Development Specialist, Vidant Health

Situational Leadership is gong to be prominent and effective, boosting out moral, empowering all of our staff to do the right thing and make the best ethic decision while at work.

Respectfully,

Akeem Ball-Stephens

Director of Operations

Subject: Leadership Theories

Good morning,

Per our meeting on various leadership theories, I think the passage that best captures the central idea of a leadership theory that is particularly relevant and important to our organization is found in Professor John Adair’s concept of “Achieving the Task” theory, found in Michael William’s book, Leadership for Leaders, (Williams, 2005)

According to Professor Adair, there are 3 important functions to his theory:

1. Achieving the task

2. Maintaining the team

3. Meeting the needs of the individual (Williams, 2005)

These leadership functions fit best with our company, as we are small and very specialized in our service to various industries and the government. Achieving the task is always our first goal. We create custom products that must be done on time and to the customer’s print and specification. As an example, the government job we are working on. It has specific delivery dates that we cannot miss. If we do, it can cost the company thousands of dollars in profits.

Maintaining the team is also very important, the team of highly trained and experienced machinist we have are an asset to the company that we cannot afford to lose. By offering advancement and more specialized training, we can keep their specialized skills on par with technology and take on even more specialized contracts with the government and the health industry.

Meeting the needs of the individual is always a challenge but one we have been working on to maintain. An example of this is our lathe machinist. He is an artist and has that temperament. Some days we must handle him with kid gloves and listen to his complaints and challenges with sympathy, but we still need to keep control of the situation.

I look forward to your feedback on my suggestion of leadership theory and how you feel we can work together to achieve the functions we need to show a confident, knowledgeable and experienced leadership framework, together.

Thank you,

Mary Ann Anderson
