Chapter 5

COLLAPSE

It is so fascinating to see how we progress in maturity as we age starting at age 4, the milestones we make towards adultohood and the growth our physical body makes as well as our mental aging progress from being cared for to being self sustained. Chapter 5 takes you thru the evolution of life. From a zygote to 71 years old our mind takes one hell of a roller coater trip of emotions and stability and instability, Chapter 5 also for me delves in to the moral compass of testing of children for mental deficiencies, there is the question of are we playing god or even does it matter anymore if children are born with disorders - Piaget's theory and current thinking was the cornerstone of how to start an observation from infant stage to adultood and quirks and byproducts of normal life is now classified and distinguised as recognizable and universal behaviour. During my early childhood developement class, I had the pleasure of observing children at a pre-school and this is something when you lopok as an observer you start noticing certain behaviours in age groups that are not common to another age group, you start to see the rambunctious acts of alpha males from age 3 and the docile nature of female children starting from age 3 - this is not to say that female todlers are not as rambunctious as males but you can see them form their own independence as they age on.

One of the topics from chapter 5 that I found very interesting was about infant attachment. I found this topic very interesting because I did not know that children developed stranger anxiety that soon into childhood, which is only eight months. The reason why a lot of infants have stranger anxiety is because the parents are not introducing the infant to that mnay people. I believe that it is a normal thing for new parents to not want to introduce so many people to their newborn because they are protective. What they do not know is this actually makes an infants stranger anxiety worse because if they are not seeing new faces, then an unfamiliar face will scare them. I also found this topic interesting because with COVID most families are being extra cautious with their children, especially newborns. I wonder how these infants stranger anxiety will be.

Chapter 5 development through the lifespan is fascinating to learn. Because I feel I have a better understanding of babies' adolescence and adulthood. Understanding children become who they are through the parent's style of Authoritarian, Permissive, Negligent, and  Authoritative. However, to include the baby's temperament. Also, Learned when the Frontal lobe is maturation development in teens can help parents understand why their child is acting. When the Frontal lobe is developing, and synaptic pruning may lead to irrational and risky behaviors. I was surprised to read teens who had risky behaviors become more cautious as an adult. I wonder why? What you think? I understand it from the frontal lobe development. I feel there more. Is it the chemicals we make or is the Frontal fully develop? I didn't say in the textbooks or PowerPoint. Guessing from my experience of Ricky's behavior was exhausted to keep making, and the unknown scared me straight.

While reading chapters 5 and 6, I read about the full fertilization stage of a developing human. I took note that when a zygote nearly finishes progressing through the embryo stage, the developing baby will already have functioning organs. I was never truly aware of the speed of rapid cell divison that occurs in Prenatal Development. It is amazing to me that it will only take approximately 6 weeks to develop working organs because it is something that is extremely necessary to being alive, and a total of 6 weeks can pass by very quickly to me. Prenatal Development interested me as a whole because I feel that it is important knowing the series of steps that occurs for human development.
