SECTION 2: Analysis of Section I Results (500 words)

1. How do the dimensions of management culture of the 3 foreign nations differ from each other? I know that Hofstede mentioned that the numbers do not have much meaning, but as I did my research and compare the numbers you can see that Australia and Canada have a large amount in common. Israel seems to truly be its own individual within the three nations that I chose. The variety of immigrants in Israel accounts for a large part of its results. Israel is the only country in the world where the size of the immigrant groups is so large that they influence the dominant values to the extent that new citizens of Israel change the existing values. You can see that Australia and Canada are nations that are more of an everyman for themselves. Individuals within these countries make decisions for their selves and who they want to be where they want to be in life. Israel has a more hands on manager trainee approach whereas with Australia and Canada the managers expect you to figure out and understand the business for yourself.

2. How do the dimensions of management culture of the 3 foreign nations differ from the USA? These three nations differ from the USA because a lot of the United States dimensions of management culture have been established based on experiences. Although the USA is tolerant of outside opinions, innovation, and do not require a lot of rules 9/11 caused the USA to be more precocious, because they have no idea when tragedy may strike again so they monitor everything and one. It is almost if they are melding with people’s freedom or should I say independence which to me goes against the United States strong views of individualism and power distance where they are made to be their own person.

3. How are the dimensions of management culture of the 3 foreign nations similar to each other? Within Australia, Canada and Israel they all have the same idea when it comes to Long Term Orientation (LTO). All three nations are concerned with establishing the absolute truth; they are normative in their thinking. They exhibit great respect for traditions, a relatively small propensity to save for the future, and a focus on achieving quick results. They also are similar when it comes to individualism (IDV) although Israel is a mix of individualism and collectivism these nations find it important to be concerned with the well-being of self and the immediate family. Looking out for the well-being of anyone outside of that circle for loyalty is far -fetched because it is hard to trust anyone when you are a-apart of culture that shapes you to be independent learning for yourself at your own pace with very little guidance outside of home.

4. How are the dimensions of management culture of the 3 foreign nations similar to the USA? The dimensions of management are similar amongst the four nations because within all for nations they have a level of communication that is informal but direct. They leave the line of commucation open between managers and employees. Although three of the nations take on the role of employees learning for themselves they still can all agree that communication is important. They all also believe in traditions, establishing the absolute truth, and their style of thinking. Leisure time with family after hard work is also essential what is considered as leisure may vary from each nation but their want to indulgent after time spent at work ranked really high for all of them.
