Faith development theory has a similarity with other human development theories. As other theories demonstrate, faith development theory is also illustrating that there are some stages from infants to seniors. And not only faith development theory, but also other human development theories are emphasizing the importance of relationship with others for development. For infants, they are strongly affected by a quality of attachment with their parents or a primary caregiver, according to Bowlby. (Broderick & Blewitt, 2015) Likewise, being bonded with a caregiver forms a person's trust for others. (Fowler & Dell, 2004)

According to Fowler's theory, a person think who he or she is as an individual in terms of individuative-reflective faith. (Fowler & Dell, 2004) It seems that this stage is a process to find out myself with out any connection with outside. For example, while I have served Korean church, I have been called as a pastor. Back then, "a pastor" was my identity. People used to call me pastor Park. But now, I serve New Zealand church, and our church members usually call person's name rather than their titles. So, our church members call my name, not my title, a youth pastor. One thing I realized is that being called by my name reminds me who I really am. When I was called by my title, it was hard to think who I am because the title was already telling me about that. I guess that I was limited in the title, so it have prevented me to find out who I really am. But when I am called by my name, which reveals myself who have been hidden by the title.
