Running head: PROMOTING AND EEVALUATING HEALTH BEHAVIORS 1

Promoting and Evaluating Health Behaviors

Introduction

Efforts should be made to lower the prevalence of childhood obesity before it is considered a public health issue. The main objective of the program is to create methods for reducing childhood obesity. Obesity can be eradicated by the use of healthy behaviors. Children should be made aware of the role they play in encouraging harmful eating habits.

Work plan

The project aims at attaining the outlined goals. In ensuring the project is implemented as planned, each goal will have a specific timeline at which it should have been attained. Timelines are to be followed as per the requirements of the project and each of the goal will be evaluated to determine whether it was attained as planned. Inclusion is a major part of the project where data is to be collected from the stakeholders in determining whether the target audience or population felt the positive impacts and benefits of the project. The following table summarizes the goal and the strategies or tasks to be undertaken in attaining the goal within the highlighted timeline.

Reduce unhealthy eating habits

Identify those foods and beverages that contribute to unhealthy eating habits to prevent the child’s consumption.

1 week

1 week in identifying the foods and beverages.

Questionnaire and interview

Questionnaire will be administered on the parent to determine the eating habits and diet patterns of the child. A family doctor is then interviewed on best diet habits for a child.

Parent/Family doctor

Developing a nutritional diet plan for incorporating health eating habits.

The objective can be fulfilled through ensuring that a nutritionist has been consulted to develop a healthy eating plan for the child.

After identifying the foods and beverages, a new diet plan is developed that matches the standards of the nutrition needs of the children based on the stage of development.

Changes are then monitored on the body of the children as monitored by the family doctor

3 months

1 week in developing a plan.

14 weeks of monitoring the weight of the child.

Interview. This plays a major role in gathering data from a nutrition expert (Jin et al, 2018).

Nutrition expert or pediatrician.

Parental involvement in pediatric obesity mitigation.

Parents should be involved through encouraging and supporting children to transition and embrace the new healthy diet.

The parent should maintain a record of changes in body mass over time.

2 months

Participant feedback will be used in determining the progress and success of the activities in attaining the desired goal.

Increased physical activities

The objective can be achieved through reduced screen time. Encouraging social relations between children. Holding frequent sporting activities that encourage use of body energy to burn the accumulating fats and calories.

A wellness professional will be responsible of developing a physical exercise plan for the child in assisting the child control the body weight based on the level of physical activities engaged in.

2 months

Gantt chart. This can be used as a checklist in determining whether the child engaged in every activity as developed in the initial physical activity plan. Each activity is checked against in determining the level of compliance of the participant in following the plan.

Control food consumption

The goal can be achieved through ensuring that they are served enough food portions.

Minimize overeating chances.

This is attained through consulting a pediatricians or a nutritionist who can provide advice on the needed food portions.

4 months

Gantt Chart can be developed that aligns with the nutrition plan in determining whether the child followed the outlined nutrition plan.

Measuring effectiveness of the program

The effectiveness of the program will be evaluated based on the desired outcomes. Each goal of the program will be evaluated in determining possible variations and the reasons for the evaluations. Survey questions developed will be based on the outcomes of the goals outlined in the program. The survey questions and papers will be personalized based on the target audience. For instance, for parents, the survey questions will concentrate more on the goals and activities that they are involved in. This will be of much help in ensuring the data provided is specific to the audience or participants. The effectiveness of the plan will be defined based on a predetermined criterion. The criterion used is that if the goals are attained within the specified timeline, then a conclusion is made that the program was effective. If the goals are partially attained or not attained at all, a conclusion will be made that the program was not effective.

Effectiveness of the intervention

The plan outlines the activities that will be carried out in the program. Among the activities outlined include: developing a nutrition plan, monitoring the health and diet patterns of the child. Also, there is making consultations with the nutrition experts and pediatricians. The success and effectiveness of the activities and interventions will be based on weight changes of the target children. A decrease in weight of the child will represent success rate for the interventions. A weight increase or failure to report decline in weight of the child represents ineffectiveness of the interventions.
