Annotated Table of Contents--Writing for Industry
Goal:
1)Understand the structure and features of research reports aimed at an industry audience.
2)Reflect on the benefits and shortcomings of industry-focused research reports for assessing research quality.
This assignment contributes toward learning goal #6, which is to distinguish ways to communicate research findings for academic and lay audiences.
Approach:
Select and read one of the industry reports in the Module for Week 6. Your task is to provide an annotated Table of Contents in outline form. Start by organizing the major headers and sub-headers found in the report and then briefly explain the content that is presented in each section. For example, a first section might be as follows:
1. Table of Contents
Provides the location of every major section of the report, plus location of tables and figures.
2. Executive Summary
Explanatory text of what is included in this section.
Etc.
The annotated TOC should be no more than 4pages, singled spaced (11 pt. Arial font).
In addition to the TOC, a 1-page reflection will also be appended. The reflection should address the following questions:
1.What did you like about reading this report?
2.What did you dislike about reading this report?
3.How is this report valuable for solving an industry problem?
4.What information was provided that allowed you to judge the quality of work describe in the report?
5.Compared to academic research, would this be interesting/easier to use by junior staff of an apparel brand/retailer to use to inform their work?
Other Requirements:
●TOC
clearly and accurately explains type of content included, in the order that it is shared.
●Must paraphrase/summarize, using your own words (no plagiarism, none or VERY little quoting except you can use the exact titles of headings and sub-headings used in the report)
●1 page (not much less, no more), single-spaced, 11 pt. Arial font, 1” margins
●Free from typos and grammatical errors
●Provide a complete citation for the report using APA style (editorial style of the American
Psychological Association)
