I Notice/I Wonder I Notice and Wonder is a routine that provides the opportunity for learners to

pause and notice features of information, math tasks, diagrams or pictures before

stepping into solving or producing a product. This allows learners to identify key

information.

1. After you choose a number, diagram, task or problem for learners to

interact with, ask: What do you notice? What do you wonder? Learners

record their thinking in a simple t-Chart

2. Have learners share what they notice. Chart these.

3. Have learners share their questions. Chart these.

4. Now pose the question that is the focus of the lesson. This may be a

question that was raised or something different. Students can relate what

they know to the unknown they are being asked about.
