Q2.1.docx

Distinguish between the terms applicant and client.

An applicant is an individual whose eligibility is not yet established while a client is a person whose eligibility has been established and has been accepted for the service.

What should be accomplished during the assessment phase?

The assessment phase during the helping process involves the diagnostic study of the client and its environment (Ren, Ellison, Miller, Busireddy, Vickery, Panda, & Qayyum, 2016). It also consists of gathering and assessment of information, this focuses on evaluation of the need for the request of services and assessment of their appropriateness so as to determine the eligibility of the services.

Describe the routine matters that are discussed during the initial contact.

Initial contact is the beginning of gathering and assessment of information about an applicant so as to determine their eligibility and need for the services. Information gathered during this phase is normally demographic which includes, marital status, age, educational background an employment (Berger, Lapham, Shortreed, Hawkins, Rubinsky, Williams, & Bradley, 2018). At the initial phase a helper should have knowledge of the applicant and begin to establish a relationship and help the applicant fill in the application form. A helper should get to know the persons previous experiences with others, strengths, perception when presenting the problem, referral source and expectations of the applicant. The applicant should make use of verbal and non vernal skills to establish a rapport with the applicant (Berger, et al 2018). The routine information that is gathered during the first contact includes completion of forms, gathering of insurance information, purpose and service agency outline, assurance of confidentiality and obtaining of information releases.

Identify the types of information that are gathered during the initial interview.

The information that is gathered during the first interviews includes the client’s marital status, educational background, and employment, age (Ren et al, 2018). Additionally a helper gets to establish the client’s previous experiences, perceptions and strengths of the client. By obtaining the clients information a helper is in a position to demystify the process of the applicant and make them feel comfortable with the agency.

Using the case of Roy Johnson, discuss the advantages of a partnership between the helper and the client.

In Roy Johnson case the helper assisted him in filling some blanks in the application. This is because Roy was not sure of how to respond to the primary source of support. As Roy discussed the situation in the family it enabled the helper fill this blanks (Mackelprang, Salsgiver & Salsgiver, 2016). . The scenario explains the importance of partnership between and helper and a client. Partnership enables client gather information and to determine what type of information is required so as to establish the eligibility and to evaluate the need for the services. As a client partners with the helper he/she is able to provide primary information by providing the helper with historical data, experience when presenting the problem and the expected results. Additionally, the client acts as an evaluator of the information (Mackelprang, Salsgiver & Salsgiver, 2016). Participation predicts the atmosphere that is expected in the future empowerment of the client.

Describe the helper’s activities during the planning phase.

The planning phase establishes the future services in an organized manner, planning starts when an agency accepts the applicant services. In the planning process the helper and the client turns the attention to developing a service plan and making arrangements for service delivery. Participation on the part of the client is also vital in these phases (Mackelprang, Salsgiver & Salsgiver, 2016). The helper determines that actual plan which addresses the services that will be provided and how it shall be arranged and what results are expected and how the results will be evaluated. The helper is able to determine missing information of the client’s social history, psychological evaluation, medical evaluation and educational information. A plan helps a helper to identify the services required, who shall provide these services and make appropriate arrangements for the services. When a plan is finished the helper arranges for service provision, the helper then establishes the network of service providers. Helpers are able to determine who service providers can work best.

Why is flexibility so important during the implementation phase?

Flexibility is of great importance during the implementation phase because of the necessity to revise the service plan which is normally a dynamic document that can be altered (Babbie, E.2015). The document should allow for changes due to changes in the clients life, circumstances and development discovery of other problems. The development of the client can also call for additional information gathering thus providing the importance of flexibility in during the implementation process.

Define case review.

Case review is defined as a periodic examination of a client’s case. It normally occurs during interaction between a helper and a supervisor, helper and a client or the interdisciplinary committee of the helper. A case review can also occur at any moment during the application process and commonly takes place during assessment. Case review is important for the accountability structure of an organization.

List the three keys to successful case review.

For the success of a case review documentation is essential. Documentation is a record of the work with a client which consist of the initial intake, assessment if information, planning, implementation and case termination (Hepworth, Rooney, Rooney, & Strom-Gottfried, 2016). . Documentation also consists of written reports, letters, forms and other materials that furnish additional information. A record is also important for case review as it provides the clients history, observations, examinations consultations financial information diagnosis and social information. Reports on clients care by the provider are also important.

Why is documentation important in service coordination?

Documentation is important in service coordination for the assessment of client’s history, observations examination and financial information. Documentation is also important because it acts as reference points.

How can the helper promote client participation?

Client participation is where a client takes an active part in the helping process. A helper promotes client participation by explaining to the client his or her purpose, goals and roles a defined by an agency (Hepworth, Rooney, Rooney, & Strom-Gottfried, 2016). The helper also encourages the client in goal definition, prioprities and interests strengths and the desired outcomes. For the case of Roy the helper was in a position to define the role and responsibilities that occurred in the three points of the assessment phase. Roy was able to talk about his goals and objectives the helper reviewed it with him. The helper also discusses his roles during the process.

Describe how the strengths-based approach applies to assessment, planning, and implementation.

Strength based approach in relation to helping focuses on the talents, knowledge, skills, interest and dreams of an individual as a way to empower, motivate and engage in the internal environment, strength based approach is used during assessment, planning and implementation so as to engage a client throughout the helping process. In the assessment stage the helper is in a position to assess the readiness for change in areas where the client has identified. Strength approaches consider change as a process that occurs in two phases pre-contemplation and the contemplation phase (Hepworth, Rooney, Rooney, & Strom-Gottfried, 2016). The helper can use a number of tools I strength identification this consists of questionnaires, surveys, forms that can be completed by a client.

Strength based approach is essential in the planning process the strengths, abilities and resources of the client is part of the plan development (Gailliot & Baumeister, 2018). During the planning stage the client –helper collaboration becomes stronger and positive in the helping process. The client is also in a position to provide input on the updates about changes in any conditions that affects the client in the planning process. Strength based approach in the implementation process is used in the reduction of harm, solution intervention, cognitive behavioral strategy and interviewing. The strengths-based approach also helps clients become their own helpers, assuming responsibility for themselves and their problems and motivating them to act in their own best interests.

What is the purpose of a code of ethics or ethical standards?

The helping process is a commitment to ethical standards, regardless of the profession helping process is focused on the way helpers work with their recipients of the services. Code of ethics has been developed by professions to perfprm professionalism in the commitments to provide guidelines for practice (Hepworth, Rooney, Rooney, & Strom-Gottfried, 2016). The role of ethical standards is to clarify the responsibility of a helper to its clients, employers and the society at large.
