In the classic stories of these tales, they are pretty gruesome and not one to hold back on the graphic detail of the violence. While growing up I always heard the kid-friendly version of " Little Red Riding Hood" until I got older and read the original classic version of little red riding hood, I was shocked and almost kind of scared at what I was reading because I didn't know how bad it was. When you’re reading you start to imagine and mentally see all the details about the characters, background stories and plot in the book. I could mentally see the wolf being stuffed with stones by the grandmother and Little Red Riding Hood and I could see him being drown after waking up from being stuffed with stone which also gave me chills.

2. Is the discussion of death in the original writing beneficial for children to understand death?  Why or why not?

In my opinion no. I feel like young kids at that age would not be able to fully understand what is going on in the book. I think they would be able to understand that something bad and not right is happening in certain parts of the book but I don't they would be able to grasp the point especially since it’s a children’s book.

3. In what ways is the current version of the story different from the original in terms of the inclusion and explanation of death?  Do you believe the current version is more, or less, beneficial for children to understand death?

The newer story of the book is more kid-friendly and more catered to a younger audience, while trying to keep it short and simple. The newer story of the book only talks about death in one part and it doesn't go into graphic depth detail about it like the classic version. I feel like the newer version of the story is more beneficial for children because it doesn't expose them that much to death or go overboard with it.

There are many children related books and stories that include death. I feel it’s important for children to learn about death but it shouldn’t be told in a harsh or traumatizing way. My reaction to the amount of death told in these stories is shocking to say the least. It should be a constant goal to always take care of the minds of children because what they’re taught affects them. Children are the future so they should be taught in a truthful, yet appropriate manner. The explanation of death and other unfortunate topics should be taught in stages by age.

The discussion of death in the original writings aren’t beneficial for children to understand because children don’t grasp things like adults do. Death is a natural part of life and should be explained because children are humans and have feelings as well. It’s better to prevent unnecessary hurt than to cover up the harsh reality. There are steps to guiding children’s misunderstandings. When explaining the language, tone, and examples given, they all play a role in how the child understands.

I feel the original versions are different from the current versions because the originals considered children’s thinking and feelings. All of the stories have the tradition of how the story begins, ends, and it’s main characters. The current stories go in more depth about the consequences. Negative values in stories shouldn’t be as popular as they are. Children should be given all aspects of anything they’re taught, just age appropriate. Children should learn about life lessons and certain skills early. They shouldn’t be forced into growing up quicker than they have to. Most people feel these current stories are “ no big deal “ , just a story to keep a child quiet. When it comes to the things made for children, it needs to be wholesome and looked at as another guide to helping raise a child and strengthening their mind.
