The topic that I choose for this discussion is the PSA testing. PSA testing is a screening system for prostate cancer that was developed in 1986 and has since then become very important in the healthcare industry. Cancers have been one of the challenges that health care is facing all over the world.

Mortality is an issue that affects the whole healthcare systems regardless of the country. The United States has been facing this problem for a long time (Steventon, 2012). Having deaths that could have been avoided did not sit very well with the healthcare professionals. This had, in turn, lowered the life expectancy rate. The life expectancy faired very badly when it was compared with the internationally. One of the causes of mortality has been prostate cancer.

The main reason for this has been the health care poor performance and behavioural factors. One of the main causes of mortality has been prostate cancer. This topic is important to the health information systems quality because deaths from prostate cancer can easily be avoided with early detection. This will only help if there is properly screening so that it is identified in its early stages, that is where PSA testing comes in. When the disease is detected in good time there is an effective treatment that is available. Studies showed that prostate cancer is highly amenable for preventive medicine and the test helps in detecting it early. When the PSA screening test has introduced the mortality, which was because of prostate cancer decreased (Preston and Ho, 2009).

One way of solving this problem is to make sure the country is all rounded when it comes to people’s lifestyles, people should be encouraged to have a proper and a healthier diet, to avoid smoking and put in physical activity. The other thing that can be done is to make sure that people are screened often; this will ensure there is early detection and treatment can then begin.

It is, however, important to note that the life expectancy not only relies on the healthcare system, that is the doctors, the hospitals, other healthcare professionals and the technology they use but it also depends much on the individual’s diet and style of lifestyle. A sedentary lifestyle is more likely to result in more medical problems in the future.
