Proposal Submission
After reading the first chapter of your textbook, select a local not-for-profit organization or a
small business in your area. You will be required to identify a specific marketing
communication problem the organization has that you would like to address. (We use the
term “marketing communication problem” broadly to refer to any managerial issue that can
be addressed using marketing communications.) The managerial issue may be related to a
specific product or service, or it may be a general issue that affects the whole organization.
Before you proceed, you should meet with the manager of the organization or business to
discuss your project and ask for her or his approval and collaboration. Assure the manager
that all input he or she provides will be held in confidence and that, depending on this input,
the project may be useful for the organization. This step is very important because you will
need internal data about the organization to complete your second assignment.
Once you have obtained the approval of the manager, submit a proposal that outlines a
brief description of the organization and the marketing communication problem
you plan to address. This proposal should not exceed one page (double spaced). If you
have any difficulty finding an organization willing to collaborate with you, contact the
Student Support Centre. They will inform your Academic Expert, who will be happy to
provide you with some suggestions.
After your Academic Expert approves your proposal, make your own schedule for the
completion of the three assignments. The suggested Course Schedule is a good starting
point, but a timetable that takes into account your own constraints could be more effective
in helping you budget your time accordingly.
