The purpose of this assignment is to help you obtain background information about your firm. The first step toward understanding a firm's financial information is to understand the company itself.

COMPLETING THE ASSIGNMENT:

1. For each of the items below that you use in completing this assignment, be sure to indicate in the space provided the edition (or year of the edition) that you used. If some of the suggested references are not available in your library your reference librarian may be able to suggest other sources that you could use instead. Many resources that summarize basic company information are now available, perhaps in your library.

ON THE INTERNET: Sometimes, different companies have similar names. To provide exact identification, web sites usually request you to type in the company's stock ticker symbol. (The stock ticker symbol is a one-to-five letter code under which the company's stock trades on the stock exchanges.) As soon as possible, identify your company's stock ticker symbol. It will make your search for information easier.

2. Use the library references listed on the prior page or Internet sources to obtain the information requested below and to answer the questions that follow. (Please think and plan carefully before answering the questions. Readability, organization, spelling, grammar, and sentence structure will all be considered in grading your responses.)

e. Is your company part of a "group" of companies? For example, does it have subsidiaries? Is your firm a subsidiary of some other firm? Discuss.

3. What are the most interesting aspects of your company (or its industry) that you have discovered so far? Discuss.
