Stat 153 Project

Due March 19th before class starts

Description: You will be collecting data and using statcrunch to analyze it. You can use data you find online or data you collect yourself. For example, you could look up how many runs the Orioles had in each of their games last season, or you can count how many steps you take each hour. Your data must be quantitative and you must have at least 30 data points.

Your answers should be typed in a Microsoft Word document. You may either email me your project or print it out and turn it in on March 19th.

To copy and paste your graphs from statcrunch to Microsoft Word, click options at the top left of your graph, then click copy. This will bring up a new image which you should right click and select Copy Image. To paste those graphs into a Microsoft Word document, you will need to hold Ctrl and Alt then press v. Select bitmap and click OK.

Questions:

1. What data did you collect? If you collected the data yourself, describe how you collected your data. If you collected data online or from another source, do you think the source is reliable?

2. Is your data discrete or continuous? If it is continuous, how many decimal places will you round to?

3. Create a frequency distribution for the data in statcrunch. Include both frequency and relative frequency in your table.

4. Create a histogram for the data in statcrunch. Describe its shape.

5. Find the mean and standard deviation of the data (you may use statcrunch). Describe what these numbers mean in the context of your data.

6. Find the 5 number summary of the data (you may use statcrunch). Create a boxplot in statcrunch.

7. Calculate the IQR and determine if this data has any outliers. If your data has outliers, what may have caused them?
