Information Security Planning

Instructions

This project requires that students work with a virtual Domain Controller installation of Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard 64-bit.

I. Enable Virtualization Technology In The System BIOS

Ensure that the Virtualization Technology is enabled in your system BIOS. You can use the following source as a reference to enable the system virtualization: http://amiduos.com/support/knowledge-base/article/enabling-virtualization-in-bios

II. Oracle VM VirtualBox

Download and install the applicable package of Oracle VM VirtualBox (http://www.virtualbox.org) based on the platform which you are utilizing.

III. Download The Microsoft Windows Server 2012 Virtual Server

Download the Virtual Server from the following location: https://www.dropbox.com/s/fpzh06uzfar2lox/DC01_MAC.ova?dl=0

IV. Add The Virtual Server To The VirtualBox Application

Select ‘File’ > ‘Import Appliance’.

Browse to the .ova file that was downloaded in Step 3.

V. Modify The Virtual Server Network Settings

Right click on the ‘DC01’ server in the left panel of the Oracle VM VirtualBox Manager.

Select ‘Settings’

Click on ‘Network’ in the left panel of the ‘DC01 - Settings' screen

Under the ‘Adapter 1’ tab, ensure that ‘Enable Network Adapter’ is selected

Modify the ‘Attached to:’ setting to reflect ‘Bridged Adapter’.

Click ‘OK’

VI. Start The Virtual Server

At the top of the Oracle VM VirtualBox Manager screen, click the green ‘Start’ button.

VII. Log Into The Virtual Server

The Administrator password is: Liberty.edu1971

VIII. Install Windows Server Update Services Perform the steps outlined in the following video in order to install Windows Server Update Services on a Windows 2012 Server: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pilirn0wCNQ

IX. Configure A Group Policy Object (GPO) To Force Windows Clients To Retrieve Windows Updates From The Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) Server Perform the steps outlined in the following video in order to create and configure a Group Policy Object (GPO) in order to force Windows Clients to retrieve Windows Updates from the Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) Server: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_WCfPUFthb0

X. Validation

· Part I: In a Microsoft Word document, paste screenshots of the Server Configuration from the Oracle VM VirtualBox.

· Part III: Within the same Microsoft Word document as utilized for the previous validation requirements, paste screenshots of the Update Services Screen.

· Part IV: Within the same Microsoft Word document as utilized for the previous validation requirements, paste screenshots of the Group Policy Management Editor screen outlining the Windows Update configuration settings.

Attach the Microsoft Word document to the Blackboard Submission for this assignment.
